  1. List and Grid support in the Content Explorer JavaScript Libraries

The java script libraries for content explorer do not appear to have an option to include toggle list/grid views which is available in the Box Drive experience.

  2. Expose the functionality for auto-deleting folders and files on a specific date via the API.

Currently, the web app has a file/folder setting in which a folder or file can be deleted on a specific date. We don't expose this service via the API.

We work with documents in packages (folders) and so when the documents expire and are deleted, we would also like the containing folder to be deleted as well. All of these packages are customer applications and so if not cleaned up then they will accumulate over time.

Right now, retention deals with files only, leaving behind the folders. The auto-delete on the folder is perfect for this purpose except that it…

  3. Add a Webhooks v2 event trigger for restoring a file version

If a file version is restored (via the webapp or API), there is no associated event trigger that captures this action. If an admin is monitoring a file for changes, no webhook is triggered for this action.

This is not currently planned. We will consider it with additional use cases and customer demand.

  4. Make the digest header in the Commit Upload endpoint optional

Currently, Commit Upload endpoint requires passing a Digest header for the sha1 of the entire file.

Given that the integrity of each file part is already verified, consider making the Digest header in the Commit Upload endpoint optional

  5. Enable API apps for select users

Right now, we can disable published APIs for all users, or enable them - we'd like the ability to restrictively enable.

  6. Added an event trigger for FILE.RENAME and FOLDER.RENAME for V2 webhooks

This events would trigger v2 webhooks when an item is renamed.

  7. Adapt Annotations to achieve Accessibility guidelines

Box View does not conformance with W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.0 (WCAG 2.0) at conformance levels A and AA - specifically, annotations can only be viewed around mouseover. This is a blocker for us as we work with public universities who have to meet those guidelines.

    This is not planned.

We don’t see enough customer demand for this yet, and supporting every additional content type takes a significant amount of engineering time and effort.

  9. Bulk assign metadata attributes to multiple folders/files at one time

We were a previous heavy user of tags and our users enjoyed the ability to assign tags to multiple files at once in the old UI.

Because they have tens of thousands of users deployed, they often have the same attribute needed to be assigned to many files.

We are evaluatig options to assign metadata values to multiple files and/or folders in a user friendly manner. We currently offer the ability to define a Metadata Cascade Policy on a folder, which will assign a metadata template and, optionally, default metadata field values to all files within that folder structure. More information is available https://community.box.com/t5/Organizing-and-Tracking-Content/Cascading-metadata-templates-in-folders/ta-p/67801

If this is insufficient to satisfy your use case, leave us a comment with the problem you are trying to solve and what would help you to address it.

  10. Support image tags in Metadata preview.

Currently images from external sites are not supported.

  11. Unmanageable API Key Whitelists

Enterprises with a lot of active software development groups have unmanageable API Key whitelists. This manifests in a lot of ways.

There is no way to limit API Keys to development (limit liability). Typical dev-qa-prod cycle requires 3 API keys. No way to associate API Keys to specific projects. There is no way to tell if old API Keys are still in use.

We have addressed whitelist management for JWT apps and OAuth app support is coming soon.

Separately, we plan to support the dev / prod / QA process with Sandboxes in a much better way. More details soon.

  12. Periodic replication of Sandbox environment with Production settings/folder structure

As we become more complex with usage of Box, we maintain Sandbox environments and are using it to test Governance Policies, integrations, and more.

Other SaaS providers (e.g., Workday) will push a replication of Configuration Settings (with an option for the customer to not replicate) from the Production to Sandbox environment. This helps keep the two in sync.

It would also be enormously beneficial if the folder structure and dummy users (not content) could be replicated into the sandbox environment for a better sense of how changes will affect Production.

  13. Request to Add Overwrite/Version Functionality to File Copy Operations via API

Currently the only way to add a version to a file is to download it and upload the new version with the If-Match header.

We are archiving files when a new file version is uploaded to a "main" folder, and to do that we have to download the existing version to our server and then generate a separate request to upload the file.

Ideally, we would be able to combine the requests into one - a COPY (https://box-content.readme.io/reference#copy-a-file) that can overwrite an existing file in the destination folder if the appropriate etag is supplied during the copy request.

This is not something we will build due to other roadmap commitments.

Alternatively, you could always upload latest version to “backup folder,” delete file from “current version” folder, then copy “backup folder” version to “current version” folder.

This will get you 100% version history in backup folder and avoid the need to download & upload the file a second time.

  14. Thumbnails should be able to be requested in a batch.

You should be able to download all thumbnails for the items within a folder.

We don’t offer an API endpoint for these types of queries today, so it’s not possible to add.

When you create a user that already exists, you get a 409 error code returned – user already exists. Is this sufficient?

  16. Add ability to make generic API requests to the .NET SDK

Currently, the Node and Python SDKs allow devs to make their own API calls with a generic "request" method. This is useful when a dev wants to use an endpoint that has not yet been added to the SDKs:

    https://github.com/box/box-node-sdk/#helpers
    https://github.com/box/box-python-sdk#other-requests

  18. Create Persistent Access Tokens

We want to embed a folder into our sales portal. We want our users/partners to be able to search within the folder.

We don't want to manage a separate code repo just for generating a downscoped token. Would be great if Box could support downscoped permanent tokens to cover these use cases.

We cannot search with in a folder with an embed widget.

  19. Option to select a folder_id other than 0 (the user's root folder) within the Move Owned Items API.

As a large company, we aim to fully automate the deprovisioning of users using Box Platform.

We would like an option within the Move Owned Items API (https://developer.box.com/v2.0/reference#move-folder-into-another-users-folder) to select a destination location other than 0 (all files).

The goal would be to automate this process and allow folders and files to be moved within an existing folder rather than at the root level.

  20. Support alternate URL's for end-users who block Box

Some external clients are blocking *box.com and as a result can't use the app built on Box platform.
