  1. Cascading Metadata - applying policy should stay in affect so future value updates cascade without force.

Metadata cascade policy should stay in effect and push future value changes down (as per policy) - until the policy is removed.

Futher only the value(s) updated should be pushed down, not the full set of metadata values..

  2. Folder Integration App can't use API to upload file to a folder if user has Uploader permission

    • I set the various Uploader permissions (Uploader, Viewer Uploader, Previewer Uploader) on a folder, but was not able to use our Folder Integration Quick Scan app to upload a scanned file to those folders.
    • I had to use Owner/Editor permissions to upload a scanned file through our application and the Box API.

Why is Box not letting our application upload a file when the Uploader permission is set on a folder?

    Thanks.

  3. Folder Integrations not available on All Files unless user is owner

We have an App Integration for Folders; Quick Scan. If a user has access to upload to a folder they can use Quick Scan from the Folder's More Actions, Integrations menu to scan a document directly into the folder.

It appears, if a user is the Owner of the folder, the Integration to Quick Scan appears when accessing the Folder's More Options from the All Files area. But, if the user is not the Owner, no Folder Integrations appear. The Folder Integrations always appear if the folder More Options is accessed from a sub-folder, i.e. not the All Files area.

  4. Ability to zip/unzip large files from within Box so transport to/from Box isn't a huge bandwidth or time-consuming issue.

Many folks are requesting or have requested the ability to zip/unzip large files from within Box and being able to view them from within Box so transport to/from Box isn't a huge bandwidth or time-consuming issue. Zipping large files is a must-have in these days of high-resolution images and A/V technology.

  5. API endpoint to return ALL objects (recursively) but simplified to create browser tree

I am using the jstree library in my application to create a full browser tree of a user's BOX resources. Please create an endpoint to return ALL objects (recursive) available to an authenticated user inside one root folder . These objects would only require the object ID, TYPE, NAME, VERSION and PARENT(parent-id as string instead of parent object). The jstree lib can take this data and create an entire file browsing tree and then users would call up more information when they click on an object. This would greatly reduce the number of API calls to your server and possibly…

Support case-sensitive file extensions (i.e. recognize “testimage.png” as the different filename from “testimage.PNG”)

Please consider adding API endpoint that would allow permanent deletion of trashed file versions.

  8. preview print

Allow the permission to just "view" & "print" files.
(However, you manage to do this)

...Maybe it's as simple as having a tick button for a Previewer to also allow printing

...Currently, a Previewer can view and not print,

...a Previewer/Uploader can currently Preview and Upload (Print is meant to work here but is currently not an option despite permission tables saying it should)

...a Viewer can currently Preview, Print and Download.

  9. File Shortcuts

I want to be able to have file shortcuts. They are just pointers to a file that can be placed in other folders throughout the file system. This makes it seem like there are copies of the file in multiple folders and all of the copies get updated whenever one gets updated because its actually one file with a bunch of references pointing to it.

We understand the convenience that implementing this feature would bring, but recommend using the existing Bookmarks feature as a more efficient and simplified means for achieving the desired behavior.

  10. Allow reorganization of received collaborated folders

I would like to request that all users are allowed, as non-folder owners, to place shared folders inside non-shared folders. This allows for better organization for users and therefore an overall better user experience. All other cloud services that I am a part of allow this.

    Example:
I own the folders "fruit" and "orange." Someone else owns the folder "apple" and shares it with me. Currently, I cannot place the folder "apple" inside of my "fruit" folder. I would like to request this is changed.

Currently, Box permissions (and as it was explained to me, security) does not allow it.…

  11. Updated needed for Firefox and Internet Explorer for "Share Folder" task.

When attempting to "Share Folder" in Box, when signed in through Firefox OR Internet Explorer, an error occurs. The only work-around we have found is by using Google Chrome. This feature worked just fine in Firefox only a week ago. Please repair.

  13. Use file size limits of Box Enterprise account when free users edit/upload to enterprise folders

Ability for free/lite users who are external collaborators in a folder to edit/upload content into a managed folder, even if the file size is above the free/lite limit. For example: Company A has an enterprise Box license and Company B does not, but uses free/lite accounts to collaborate in folders with Company A. When Company B needs to collaborate/edit large files in Company A’s folder, they can only do so if the size of the file is below the free/lite account limit. For large files, they have to download the file, edit it on their desktop, then email back to…

  14. Fix file/folder size, counts, dates and storage

I'd like to preface this by saying that this is a bug that needs to be fixed, not an idea. Even so, Box suggested we post this here to get others to chime in and say that this should be fixed.

This is a problem that's been around for at least 1.5 years.

Often, when an account's folders and files are transferred to someone else, the account from which the data was transferred still shows something greater than 0 bytes owned. This becomes a problem for deleting that user, because we can't be sure if the transfer worked, and we…

We are on track towards fixing this. We have made significant improvements in our Files, and Folder counts and their related sizes. They now happen in a near realtime speed and we also have a redundant process that runs and fixes these counts nightly. The current improvements are visible in most of your folders browsing experience and the enterprise level counts. We are in process of fixing counts that you can see for a given user, this will release in Calendar year 2024'Q3. There are also few minor improvements planned for the last quarter of the year.

  15. FTP should support other authentication methods other than simple password

One of the most important things to understand is whether auth support / options match up with real life requirements and usage patterns

  16. Block root shared folder renaming

I found it very disappointing when every user with editor's permissions can rename (and probably even delete) root folders. This is the absolutely most typical scenario with shared folders, and everything from cheapest NAS to Azure Sharepoint can prevent renaming (or worse deleting) root folders.

I really miss the typical R/W user - Editor without permissions to delete/rename the root folder.

  17. Add ability to batch rename multiple files

I'd like to be able to select all contents of a folder (ex. images taken by a particular photographer at an event) and standardize all file names (ex. EventPhotographer Name (1), EventPhotographer Name (2),...)
This is simple to do in Windows Explorer, but I really do not want to download and then re-upload for something so minor!

  18. Enable version history disabling at the folder level

  20. Support Microsoft linking

Formulas referencing external source files are used in Excel models and when linking Excel to PowerPoint. The ability to change data in a source file and have the updated data flow through to any/all linked files stored in different locations does not work.

The ”updating links” function does not work as the formulas are not referencing the source file in Box Cloud, but instead are mapped to a temp copy on the local machine
