"Open With" UI Element Documentation is broken - does the feature work?
Does the "Box Content Open With" feature work for anyone?
I see it as being broken in the developer documentation and I'm unable to get it working with my own app after following the documentation.
1 voteWe no longer support the OpenWith UI element for any new customers as of December 21, 2021.

Folder Tree View in WebApp (Windows Explorer/Finder, eBuilder)
I noticed that Box does not have a high-level folder tree view, except in the 'All Files' page (you click on the arrow next to "All Files"). Many Box folders in my company's folder structure take a very long time to load - however the folder tree view on the 'All Files' page loads quicker, but still not as fast as another application like eBuilder. Having a permanent option on the web application would be very efficient when tracking down files, and load times won't be as cumbersome. Currently, having to click through multiple folders in order to access the…

customized page
Customizable Box Tools Web Page - When a user is logging into Box, the Box Tools page displays, allowing Box Tools to check / verify security of the user's machine prior to entering the Box environment. However, this web page is not modifiable and because of that, can cause end user confusion. For example, the page displays text to download Box Tools, but if the user already has the package installed, that is not necessary information. This page should be customizable to allow for organizations to add their support contact information and instructions on what to do.

Ability to set default application for Box Edit opening .md file
Sometimes Box Edit opening files in the program not set as default on MacOS
If a user installs Xcode on Mac OS, the user cannot open .md files with default application which set on Mac OS. The user would like to open .md file with Atom.app but it opened with Xcode.
User can do nothing to change the application. it is the OS that it's selecting XCode when it's installed.4 votes -

Box Tools install to be shown as "Box Edit" instead of "Box Tools"
While I understand the Box Tools installer also contains the Box Local Com Server application, it is there to support Box Edit so labeling the entire installation more explicitly as Box Edit, instead of Box Tools, will be more clear.
6 votesThanks for your feedback. It’s called Box Tools because it actually contains both Box Edit and Device Trust capabilities in this one installer.

Option to open links directly in desktop applications (rather than Box Preview)
Currently when I receive a link to a file on Box via email, clicking the link takes me to Box Preview. A couple of steps are needed before I can open the file using the relevant desktop application (e.g. Word, rather than Word Online or Box Preview), which is invariably what I want to do. It is problematic to need to access files via a web browser if I am not connected to the internet or if my connection is poor. Please could you introduce a way to quickly open lists directly in desktop applications?

Allow Admin Deployment of Box Drive for Upgrades over Network
We use a deployment software and are able to use it successfully for all upgrades except Box Drive. This is due to the fact that there is a prompt for confirmation that the upgrade will cause loss connection and in a ticket was told there was no way to force it to continue.
What I'd like to see is a way for either through a deployment software, GPO, or PowerShell, be able to force upgrades at start-up. This would ensure that users are not yet accessing files that could be messed up.

Add ability for end-user to clear Box Edit cache in UI
We pass this page along to users from time to time to resolve Box Edit cache issues. Please add a UI element that they can use to do this.

Direct "Save As" when saving from Box Edit to a navigable area on local machine.
Currently if you hit Save As on the default Box Edit location, it will save the version of the file to the cache and this causes version/maintenance issues with a document.

If a user locks the file, it should be only unlockable by that user and an administrator, not other Editors
Other users unlocking defeats the purpose of locking in the first place.
26 votesThanks for the suggestion! This is not currently planned, but we will keep it in mind for future enhancements of the product.

Create per-machine version of Box Edit
The user is trying to use Box Edit on a Mac shared between two users. If they use the Switch User option, the second user's file will open under the first user's profile/login session. The second user doesn't see anything.
0 votesNo plans to support this for now. We will consider this at some point in the future when we get more usage data for this scenario.

Add ability distinguish between the three different types of Box Edit installations from program name
Some deployment tools (Dell Kace) only track the program name and publisher.
Companies using these tools are unable to determine what version of Box Edit (per-user, single-user machine-wide, or multi-user machine-wide) is installed which makes it difficult to remediate the situation.
