  1. Support for differential or byte-level or block-level syncing with Box Drive

This type of transfer means only the changed parts of the file are transferred instead of the whole file.

    Here's a good explanation:

A true silent update is not currently planned. We have made some improvements to Box Drives update behavior by including silent updates when Box Drive is launching, if an update is already available. This improvement is in v2.3 for Mac and v2.3 for Windows.

  3. Expose EXIF Metadata in the Box Drive when Media (Photo, etc.) is Uploaded via Box Drive or Web App

We sort hundreds of thousands of photos taken by our users. We need to be able to sort within Box Drive in a Windows Explorer view, and one of the ways they sort is via the Date Taken attribute.

  4. Have Box Notes Accessed via Drive Open in Box Notes Desktop Application

Right now, when a user opens a Box Note from Drive on their desktop, the note is opened in the webapp, rather than the Box Notes desktop app they have installed.

A better flow would be to have those notes open in the Notes desktop app instead

  5. Ability to see and access bookmarks in Box Drive

Bookmarks: I store a lot of bookmarks in Box. This bookmarks are not visible in the folder structure on my laptop (links seems not to be stored as files). As a consequence e.g. bookmark titles are only searchable via Box browser interface but not via Windows search functionality within explorer

  6. Box Drive should preview files in windows explorer or Finder

There is a feature in Windows Explorer that allows you to enable a preview pane that previews the contents of files inside of the explorer window. This does not work on files that are in Box Drive even for files that have been opened before.

This is a feature we would love to get to, but unfortunately it is not on our short term roadmap. Please continue adding your feedback!

Windows Server 2012 is not supported by Box as only two latest major versions (64-bit) are supported.

We are currently not planning to implement this feature and will continue to prevent all Box Drive results from appearing in Explorer/Finder searches.

Box Drive does not download the all of the metadata (File name, folder structure, etc.) of your Box content. Instead, it is downloaded on demand and then evicted when it is no longer relevant. This eviction process is not visible to users and it is not easily predictable. This would cause the search results in Explorer/Finder to be inconsistent for users – sometimes they would find a file and other times they may not if the metadata and file were evicted.

We have chosen not to download all of the metadata (and then keep it up to date with changes) as this can result in a large performance, storage and bandwidth tax which is not scalable – especially in environments where users interface with millions of files/folders.

We currently do not have this planned on our roadmap, though we want to recognize that content sprawl is an issue and we are working to address it!  Please keep the feedback & use cases coming to help us prioritize this in the future!

  13. Allow users to suppress problem items they do not have permissions to fix

For example, you are a Viewer Uploader on a folder that contains restricted Windows characters.

As a Viewer Uploader, you do not have permissions to rename the folder.

Now, your BFD client will forever complain about this folder.

We currently do not have this planned on our roadmap.

We will be suppressing server-side problem item (files that cannot sync to Box Drive from Box.com) notifications starting in Box Drive v2.4 in an effort to reduce the noise while we work towards solving this problem in a better way.

  14. Change local BfD folder UI to distinguish if collaborators are in folders (like webapp)

Add UI to local BfD folders to know ownership/collaborators of folders (i.e. yellow = no collabs, grey = external collab, blue = owned externally + collaborators)

  15. For problem items on Box, add ability to click on the problem item and be taken directly to the item on Box.

We currently do not have this planned on our roadmap.  Please keep the feedback & use cases coming to help us prioritize this in the future!

  16. Expose Favorites in Box Drive

Favorites are becoming more and more popular now that they're better exposed (in the left rail) in the new Web App.

As such, users expect to access their Favorites list regardless of which endpoint they're using - webapp (supported), mobile (supported), or desktop (not supported via Sync or Box for Desktop).

REQUEST: Add a 'Favorites' view to Box for Desktop content (somehow) that allows the user to view only their Favorites (files + folders) just like they do in the webapp.

  18. Allow Auto-Provisioning from Box for Desktop

Our current desktop apps (Sync, Box for Office) do not support allowing a user to auto-provision their account during the login process.

  19. Folder-Level Sync Controls: Restrict Managed Users from syncing a folder (even if they're an Editor / Co-Owner)

Be able to disable sync at the folder level regardless of co-owner or editor collaboration level. Users need to be added at these collaboration levels but they should not have the ability to sync certain folders to their machine (e.g., heavily collaborated content).

Box Shield may be a potential workaround for users interested in restricting syncing of specific content by classifying it. Though this will also prevent any downloads of the content as well.
