We understand the convenience that implementing this feature would bring, but recommend using the existing Bookmarks feature as a more efficient and simplified means for achieving the desired behavior.

Would it be possible to have the Excel file link point to the Box fileID rather than a location?

Could there be a collaboration between Box and Microsoft so that the linked excel files point to the file ID in Box rather than a UNC path? If that could work, then it would also work in Excel Online and not just Office Desktop files through Box Drive.

This is a very large concern for us as well considering how often users accidentally drag one folder into another. I know there is an API to manually set locking a specific folder, but there is little visibility into this in the interface and is cumbersome for our team to implement and manage over time.

Can we at least notify the user for any root or 1st level folder that they are about to change a top level folder? They would need to confirm the change before it happens. We can then assign this by default for all users across all new folders that are created at the top two levels.

Our team sees the value in the web search, but it changes their preferred workflow of using Box Drive. To get more adoption of Drive over CIFS file shares, adding a more granular search feature would help push users toward Box Drive.

Thank you for the suggestion. Box currently offers the ability to lock folders using the folder lock API - https://developer.box.com/reference/post-folder-locks/

We do not have a feature on our roadmap to expose this functionality from Box Drive. We will place this in our backlog as we continue evaluating ideas to improve Box Drive.

Please keep the feedback & use cases coming to help us prioritize this in the future!

For Office files stored in Box, we are enabling the capability coauthor in real-time with collaborators. This will eliminate issues that arise when creating conflict copies. For other files types that do not support coauthoring, we do not have a feature planned on our roadmap, to notify users when the file is locked outside of the lock icon that is displayed on the file in the Explorer/Finder view.

We will place this in our backlog as we continue evaluating ideas to improve Box Drive.

Please keep the feedback & use cases coming to help us prioritize this in the future!

It is not currently prioritized in the near future. However, we are putting systems in place so that we can enable the dark mode in the future.

Definitely agree here. It's preventing our firm from making Box our primary as we replicate to on prem CIFS which is faster for most users. Their complaint is they can't just copy the path in file explorer for a Box path and send it to someone else because it includes C:\Users\username\Box\...

    Here is another idea:

(From File Explorer in Windows using Box Drive)
    1. Navigate to the file or folder to share.
    2. Right click folder or file to bring up Box menu options.
    3. Select "Share/Copy Shared Link"
    4. Send that link to the recipient.
    5. Instead of recipient opening the link in a browser, they open it in the Box Drive tool in the systray.
    6. Box Drive will parse out the URL which includes the file/folder ID and is smart enough to know the path of that file/folder.
    7. Box Drive opens the file/folder.

You just need to figure out how to parse the URL to tell File Explorer how to open the path which shouldn't be too hard.
