I don't know why this hasn't been addressed yet. I don't use Box unless I can't avoid it because of this. My root directory has more than 40 folders "shared with me" - most of which I need to be able to access but RARELY. I can't organize or rename. I'd love to switch out of Google Drive & Dropbox, since my university uses Box, but this issue significantly impedes my willingness to do so. This has been an issue since I first used Box circa 2017 - and there are MANY threads asking for it. They all send us here, to comment. So here I am, again, commenting. Option 2 is hands-down better. But Option 1 would address the issue sufficiently for me to make Box usable for my purposes.

Chiming in on the need for this. Option 2 is hands-down a better solution. There are threads going back four years asking for this, and it hasn't been resolved. I would like to migrate my whole file architecture from Dropbox to Box, but my institutional Box account is too full of cruddy file sprawl I can't control without leaving folders I can't leave.
