Disable drag/drop function for subfolders when navigating to save a file
When navigating to the relevant subfolder to save a file, it is too easy to accidentally drag/drop a subfolder into a parallel one, on route.
Causing headaches with missing folders and upsetting the folder structure.
If the folder moving function could be frozen while saving files, this would be more secure.8 votes -
Short cut link for the file in Box Drive should be available
Windows shortcut link for the file in Box Drive is broken if the BoxDrive cache is deleted. If the shortcut exists, the file in Box Drive should be opened as far as it exists.

Shared link to open file directly in Box Drive
Instead of opening in Web App, we should click a shared link to open in Drive.
59 votesThis is something we’re considering for the longer term roadmap, but not something we’re exploring in the near-term unless there’s more demand.

Action Failed: Unsupported Name - no file path shown in tool tip
For Box Drive errors where 'Action Failed: Unsupported Name' - the tool tip on hovering over the filename shows 'Unsupported Name on OS’, instead of the full file path (such as with 'Rename File Failed: Name Is Already Taken').

show full details of a file when integrated in finder
when viewing a file in a finder window (mac) I cannot view the details such as dimensions of an image. this is an extremely valuable feature for designers and developers using box to store their files.
4 votesThis is not currently planned, but we’d love to hear more use cases to help with the prioritization of this request!

Box Drive Install - Convert Synced Files/Folder to Marked for Offline
After installing Box Drive, the items that were previously synchronized with Box Sync should marked for offline. It is a disincentive for my team to have to resync all these folders. Additionally, the synced link on the web interface does not seem to serve a purpose since it does not reflect the items now marked for offline.

Add Make Available Offline control to Explorer/Finder toolbar
We are pushing our users to start using Drive instead of Sync. Our helpdesk team brought up that they are concerned that the current UI for MFOing content (right click file, click “Make Available Offline”) is not intuitive for end users. They are requesting a button for “MFO“ to be surfaced on the top toolbar of the Windows Explorer window when an item is selected, so that the option is visible without having to right click the item.

Ability to see and access bookmarks in Box Drive
Bookmarks: I store a lot of bookmarks in Box. This bookmarks are not visible in the folder structure on my laptop (links seems not to be stored as files). As a consequence e.g. bookmark titles are only searchable via Box browser interface but not via Windows search functionality within explorer

We are currently not planning to implement this feature and will continue to prevent all Box Drive results from appearing in Explorer/Finder searches.
Box Drive does not download the all of the metadata (File name, folder structure, etc.) of your Box content. Instead, it is downloaded on demand and then evicted when it is no longer relevant. This eviction process is not visible to users and it is not easily predictable. This would cause the search results in Explorer/Finder to be inconsistent for users – sometimes they would find a file and other times they may not if the metadata and file were evicted.
We have chosen not to download all of the metadata (and then keep it up to date with changes) as this can result in a large performance, storage and bandwidth tax which is not scalable – especially in environments where users interface with millions of files/folders.

Expose EXIF Metadata in the Box Drive when Media (Photo, etc.) is Uploaded via Box Drive or Web App
We sort hundreds of thousands of photos taken by our users. We need to be able to sort within Box Drive in a Windows Explorer view, and one of the ways they sort is via the Date Taken attribute.

Box Drive should preview files in windows explorer or Finder
There is a feature in Windows Explorer that allows you to enable a preview pane that previews the contents of files inside of the explorer window. This does not work on files that are in Box Drive even for files that have been opened before.

Support for differential or byte-level or block-level syncing with Box Drive
This type of transfer means only the changed parts of the file are transferred instead of the whole file.
Here's a good explanation:

A true silent update is not currently planned. We have made some improvements to Box Drives update behavior by including silent updates when Box Drive is launching, if an update is already available. This improvement is in v2.3 for Mac and v2.3 for Windows.

Support Windows folder redirection with Box Drive
This is supported in Box Sync: https://community.box.com/t5/Box-Sync/For-Admins-Redirect-quot-My-Documents-quot-Folder-to-Box-Sync/ta-p/20656
110 votesThis is not technically possible with the current non-persistent architecture of Box Drive.
When the ‘Box’ folder disappears (whens users quit, update, log out) Windows folder redirection creates a new ‘Box’ folder to continue to redirect content. This forks the redirection out of Box Drive.
Workarounds have been investigated heavily, but the cost to implement is too large to commit to the roadmap now.

Have Box Notes Accessed via Drive Open in Box Notes Desktop Application
Right now, when a user opens a Box Note from Drive on their desktop, the note is opened in the webapp, rather than the Box Notes desktop app they have installed.
A better flow would be to have those notes open in the Notes desktop app instead
