Request for Improvement of BOX Drive Proxy Server Authentication Response Function
BOX Drive is not working properly in our environment.
We recognize that BOX Drive is designed to read Pac files, but the communication is succeeding up to the proxy server according to the Pac file.
However, it seems that it is not able to respond to the authentication response of the proxy server. As a result, when we open files in our Office products (Excel and Word) that cannot be opened in a web browser, we have to download the file once from
BOX.
This method is not productive for us.As a solution, we would like to be able…

New Box Drive for Windows (Cloud Files): Improve Explorer UX during startup/connecting to avoid unstable/incorrect folder state
Problem (What problem could Box solve for you?)
When Windows starts, the new Box Drive (Cloud Files architecture) auto-connects. During this “connecting/initializing” period, the Box Drive folder becomes visible in File Explorer even though Box Drive is not fully running/ready. The folder view is unstable: some items show missing icons/status, and opening folders can result in errors. This happens consistently across multiple users in our pilot.
This behavior may be aligned with the feature “Box Drive folders remain accessible even when the Box Drive application is not running,” but exposing a partially-initialized state causes confusion and support tickets (users think…3 votes -
Open read-only in BoxDrive
Users with viewer privileges are not allowed to update files, but in the case of files that are updated simply by opening them, such as .xls files, an error will occur each time the file is opened in BoxDrive.
Is it possible to open files from BoxDrive in read-only mode?-in Japanese-
28 votesBox Drive doesn’t currently provide a built-in “read-only open” option. Instead, whether a file opens in read-only mode depends on the application (Excel, Word, etc.) and the operating system.
Here are a few possible workarounds:
- Download a local copy and open it outside of Box Drive.
- Use Box Preview in the web app, which always opens in read-only mode.
- Adjust application settings (e.g., in Excel you can configure certain files to always open as read-only).

Allow users to save column width settings in folder view (Box Web and Box Drive)
Description:
Currently, when viewing folders in Box (both Web and Box Drive), the default column widths for fields like "Name" and "Modified Date" are too narrow. Users must manually adjust the column widths every time they open a folder. However, these adjustments are not saved, and the view resets to the default narrow widths.
This causes inconvenience and reduces productivity, especially for users who frequently work with long file names or need to sort by date.
Feature Request:Enable users to save their preferred column widths in folder views.
Apply saved settings persistently across sessions and folders.

I would love to be able to direct Box Drive to any drive connected to my computer.
Have the option to choose where Box Drive syncs from not just where it is installed. Instead of the startup drive as default Box Drive location, having the option to choose any drive internal or external drive would be great.

Notifications + Override ability for Folder Owners when a folder is Deleted by a Collaborator
When in Box Drive, collaborators can inadvertently delete a large folder, even if they don't own that folder. Before the folder is able to be deleted, the owner of the folder should receive a notification with a warning (e.g. Jane Doe is about to delete your files) and the owner should have the ability to override the action. In the case where the Owner is no longer at the company, there should be an Admin warning and ability to override the action.

Box Drive: Safe Column Width Fixation
The default column width is too narrow when viewing in Box Drive, and it is not possible to apply column width locking. I would like to request an improvement to this feature.

version
Allow the option to keep the existing filename when uploading a new version. Filenames are often autogenerated by the software producing the file. After uploading to Box, I usually rename the file to a more meaningful name. When I generate a new version of the file, it will have a different name, and then upload it to Box as a new version. Box renames it to the same name as the newly uploaded file, meaning I have to rename it again. I would like the ability to keep the previous name instead of the name of the newly uploaded file.

Index Lists
Suggest to add feature allowing users to download index lists of folder contents.
This feature could be permissioned, but the current protocol of requiring Box admin approval is challenging to navigate, and the produced index lists are not organized or very useful.

Extend 21 CFR Part 11 Compliance to Box Sign APIs to enable Part 11 Box Sign requests via Box Drive
As of Box Drive v2.43, Box Drive now integrates with Box Sign. However, this integration does not support Part 11 compliant signatures. Since Part 11 compliance is enabled and enforced for all users in our organization, this presents a risk, as users could inadvertently bypass this requirement when using the integrated Box Sign feature via Box Drive.
From Box Support "...when a user clicks on the "Send to Box Sign" option from Box Drive, Box Drive sends a "Signature Request" to Box Sign API. When the request is successfully processed, Box Sign API replies with “prepare_url” in response. We then…

DOWNLOAD DELETED FILE
Would like the option to download a deleted file instead on Restoring it. I would like to be able to download to my downloads folder instead of just restoring the file to its original location.

Add tag support for OSX files in Box Drive
File color labels (tags) in OSX do not work on Box Drive.
Competing cloud storage platforms (like Dropbox) easily handle this.
In a MacOS team production workflow, tags are essential for production processes. Labels allow effortless communication to other team members on the status of file production. This is an industry-standard way of working which is totally broken in Box Drive.
Please review the many MANY past requests for this feature in these forums. It is a long-standing issue that deserves attention!

About the inconvenience of Explorer-style display
When I open a folder and find that it doesn’t contain what I’m looking for, I press Backspace to return to the parent folder. However, in Explorer view, the folder I just opened ends up hidden just above the visible area. This is extremely inconvenient.
Why does the system place the folder I just opened in a position where it’s hidden above? It would make sense to keep the previous window state as it was, or at least move the recently opened folder to the top of the visible list. But hiding it above makes no sense at all. Please…1 vote -
Internal links to documents for collaboration
We use Box Drive for a native experience for users to access documents. The downside is when collaborating on documents, most people tend to upload a copy of the document to an email and send it, which results in multiple versions of the document. On my prior document system, Outlook would allow users to upload a file that was actually a link to the stored document so people could collaborate on it. I know we could create/send a shared link, but this would result in alot of unnecessary links floating around. Could Box Drive/Outlook prompt to upload a link to…

More user-controlled settings (organizational and other)
Allow users to set default sorting method. E.g., I can choose to have files always appear in alphabetical order.
Furthermore, allow users any controls they would have with a regular file explorer. I genuinely don't understand why my workplace wants me to use Box: File Explorer But Worse Somehow™
Let users control their UI. It was reality a mere decade ago and now every company tries to obscure choice beyond reason. It's frustrating. We want our controls back.1 vote -
Changing default columns view in File Explorer with Box Drive - Move or hide sync status
The recent 2.48.250 release has forced a new Sync column in File Explorer. This new column is fixed in position and can't be hidden. I, for one, don't care to have this column take us space in the Explorer as I have a smaller laptop screen.
When you select the column and hide in Explorer, it shows up at the next refresh back in the same position.
The integration with File Explorer should follow Windows 11 preferences and be adjustable just as OneDrive is.

Share files externally Box Drive
Allow the 'People with the link' option to be available directly in Box Drive when sharing files externally, so users don't need to switch to the Box Web App.

Allow search feature on shared link folders
Allow search feature on shared link folders. Search feature should be everywhere whether they are collaborated folders or guest shared link folders.
Currently they are not available on shared link folders which makes it difficult for users to search for a specific file within a folder. (E.g. 500 image files in a folder and user has to download whole folder to search for a specific image file)
