Thanks for the feedback. Adding @mention to the body of the Note is something that we believe would improve the annotations experience in BoxNotes. Although we can’t prioritize this feature at the moment, we will consider this feature when planning our future roadmap.

Outlook on the web manages to preview attached word docs which are password protected so it's possible to have this. Without it, it's pretty much impossible to get collaboration to happen on these files. I guess you might be seeing a risk of leakage of information from the password protected file into the comments against it, but surely it wouldn't be impossible to tie the ability to see/add comments to the successful previewing of the file?
