Thank you for the suggestion. Box currently offers the ability to lock folders using the folder lock API - https://developer.box.com/reference/post-folder-locks/
We do not have a feature on our roadmap to expose this functionality from Box Drive. We will place this in our backlog as we continue evaluating ideas to improve Box Drive.
Please keep the feedback & use cases coming to help us prioritize this in the future!

We just setup our environment and ran into this same problem. Editor grants more access than we desire, Viewer-Uploader is the better option, and at the minimum should be included in the list of default roles.
+1 for a reply button in the comments section. Ideally the reply button would copy the @mentioned users, and the emailed notification would be labeled as "reply", so that it can be filtered out from other comments being made on the same document.
