Support for Spotlight on macOS is out with the release of version 2.53 (https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/53361463306515-Box-Drive-v2-53-Release-Notes).

The request will be left in the "gathering feedback" stage, as Finder/File Explorer search functionality does remain limited.

Microsoft OneDrive has a simple option 'Turn On Files On Demand' so the user can determine if they want caching or syncing. On the search results being inconsistent, how does Microsoft handle it? It seems like your decision to not download metadata is due to limitations in your design rather than what the user wants. This is a major miss in your design and should be rectified.

Firstly, removing a key feature in next rev software is not cool! You have had two years to work on this. The above explanation about metadata does not make sense now that we have 'Make Available Offline' option. No reason why Spotlight cannot index them. This is a top10 requested feature and you should be constantly 'Researching'. If not, you are saying you don't care about customers needs. I would definitely not recommend Box to my friends.

We currently do not have this planned on our roadmap. Please keep the feedback & use cases coming to help us prioritize this in the future!

The use case is simple and universal. A document or folder may be relevant to more than one topic hence there is a need to provide a link so there is one source of truth instead of duplicating and thus 'branching' the document(s). Lack of visibility in Drive breaks this connectivity and causes confusion.
