  1. Support for Regular Expression (REGEX) for Auto-Classification in Shield

We would like the ability to support Regular Expressions (REGEX) for creating auto-classifications rules in Shield. This would greatly enhance how much we can leverage the capability

  2. Block single user

Our security has deemed a single email as suspicious. We would like to block this single email from connecting to our Box, or being collaborated into our Box.

With Shield we can block the whole domain, but that approach is too broad and would limit too many valid email addresses.

  3. Create reports for Shield actions/tracking

Create reporting for Shield activities, including the following:
    1) Classifications applied by their name (i.e. 'externalpublic used on 157 folders/files'). This would help determine popular and unpopular classifications.
    2) User who applied the classification label and each time they applied one (i.e. Person A applied shield classification labels on 10/1, 10/2, 10/3, etc). Helps see who is using the labels and how frequently.
    3) User and which label they applied (i.e. Person B applied the external
public label on 10/1, 10/2, 10/3, etc.). Helps see a combo of the above two bullets.
    4) Number of times a shield classification…

  4. Shield classification user permissions

Request to make classification application settings specific to the classification. Currently, the setting for who can apply/remove a classification is for all classifications, but there are cases where it would be helpful that a classification to be only applied by owners and other where co-owner, or even editor would be allowed to apply certain classifications.

    Examples:
    1. A classification tied to a Shield access control rule that only owners can apply or remove
    2. A classification tied to a Shield access control rule that owner/co-owners can apply or remove
    3. A classification identifying a type of content that owners/co-owner/editors can…

  5. Whitelisting Access Using Managed User Groups

Companies frequently hire contractors and provide them with company email addresses to access internal networks and applications. This creates an issue with contractors having visibility into an entire folders and not just the projects/folders that apply to them. Shield's whitelisting capabilities allow us to limit external email domains, but because contractors are given a company email domain the whitelisting capabilities do not apply.

We would like to be able to create a "Consultants" Managed User Group and whitelist access to break waterfall permission for internal Managed User Groups.

  6. Retain annotations in subsequent version(s) of a document

We use annotations when a group of us is proofing and suggesting edits to a document. When we're finished, when the designer makes our edits to the document, and then uploads a new version. Unfortunately, once the new version is uploaded, unlike general comments, the annotations are gone so we can't check in our changes. It would be great if you could make it possible to view annotations from the previous version of a document. Right now, the only workaround is to avoid using annotations, or to open the previous version of the document in a separate browser window and…

  7. Notification when someone is editing a file

Since we don't have an option to check-in/check-out of files, can you add a feature like Dropbox's badge which alerts a user when someone else is editing a file so we prevent any simultaneous version history/editing issues?

Thanks for the suggestion. We’re actively researching in this area right now, so I’d love to collect any additional feedback you might have on use cases. For example: are you primarily looking for this notification on Preview? The files list? And in which applications – Web? Box Drive? Box mobile applications?

Any additional information you provide will be much appreciated.

  8. The "File Request" function available not only to the managed users but also to external users.

We'd like to see the "File Request" function available not only to the managed users but also to external users.
If possible, we'd like this setting to be able to be done by folder from "Folder Settings".

We are confident that this feature will expand the use of Box even further.

  9. Restrict Collaboration for Individual External User

Customer would like to have the ability to block individual external users from collaborating on their enterprise content. The external domain allow list is too broad if only one or two external users need to be blocked from collaborating on content.

  10. Fix file/folder size, counts, dates and storage

I'd like to preface this by saying that this is a bug that needs to be fixed, not an idea. Even so, Box suggested we post this here to get others to chime in and say that this should be fixed.

This is a problem that's been around for at least 1.5 years.

Often, when an account's folders and files are transferred to someone else, the account from which the data was transferred still shows something greater than 0 bytes owned. This becomes a problem for deleting that user, because we can't be sure if the transfer worked, and we…

  11. Instructions for installing cli on Linux

Why don't you at least include some guidance on https://developer.box.com/docs/box-cli regarding where to start if you are using Linux? I have been unable to effectively use my box account since the webdav support ended, and every so often take another stab at it. It would be nice if this page at least pointed to the best resources for installing on Linux, rather than just giving a link to the download pages.

We are in the process of gathering feedback on usage of the Box CLI. If you would like to share how you intend to to use it, please feel free to do so in the comments. Once we’ve reached on a decision we’ll make sure to update this request.

  12. "File Request Link" report similar to the "Shared Link" report

Would like Org level report on what folders have "File Request Links" very similar to the "Shared Link" report. We need to report on what folders are shared publicly.

  13. Upload Completion Notification

I love how I am notified when a set of files are uploaded into a specific folder but I am having one very key issue. I will receive the notification upon upload, but many times because it is 10+ large images, the images are not done uploading. I will review the folder but be unaware that the Upload is not complete. I may see 5 images with 5 still uploading.

Is there a way Box could show us of upload progress? OR possibly send a second notification when the upload is complete?

Thank you for the feedback. Can you please provide more details on the specifics of when you’re encountering this issue? Are you having problems related to status for a file request submission? Or regular file/folder uploads? Any information you can provide (including which application you are using) would be very helpful as we research potential soluitions.

  14. File Request - Display Icon on Folders with File Request Enabled

On the website, much like the icons on/next to folders for Shared Links, Descriptions, or Sync To Desktop, it would be nice to have an icon for folders that have the File Request feature enabled on them. It would greatly assist with being able to easily identify folders that have the feature enabled at first glance. Thank you.

Thank you for this feedback! We are actively exploring options to both indicate when a File Request is active on a folder, as well as when a file submission came in through a File Request. We should have a more comprehensive update in 1-2 quarters after we update the core feature/functionality in Q1 and Q2. Thanks!

  15. Input file/folder ID instead of folder name in Files and Folders report

Quite often folders with same name appear when the folder name is entered for filtering the folder to create the report, resulting in the report being incorrect although after long time waiting for the report to be ready.
By allowing to filter by file/folder ID instead of folder name, such mistake can be avoided and the the filtering can be made more accurate.

  16. Make API rate limits more sophisticated, especially for large enterprises

When working with a Box Enterprise that has tens of thousands of users, scripts designed to do things like user information syncing, group syncing, or user provisioning/deprovisioning often run into real issues with the Box API rate limits.

Some calls (e.g. downloading or uploading a file) are clearly significantly more resource-intensive than others (e.g. getting a user’s aliases). The method Google has implemented for the Gmail API (see https://developers.google.com/gmail/api/v1/reference/quota) seems like a really great way to balance the need to protect the back-end systems against the need for increased performance for less-intensive calls. It would be nice if Box…

Thanks for your patience and feedback, Ian.

I am curious to hear if we were to implement something like what Google has, which endpoints would you expect to see higher rate limits around?

Also, would you mind sharing some more details around the frequency of the API calls your processes are making right now, and any approximations around what rate limits would suffice for you?

    Thank you!

  17. Add column for Modified date, and allow sorting on it.

It would be really handy to be able to add a column for and sort based on "Modified date" field. Currently the "Updated" column is not useful if you are doing content migrations from outside sources. While the files maintain the "modified date", they get an "Updated date" of the day it was migrated.

We are considering migrating our existing LAN contents to Box. Our users frequently need to sort on last modified date. We are uploading all data to Box and retaining the original date stamps where possible. Sorting is key.

  18. Allow edit access on shared links

Currently, we can choose the access permissions for shared links. However, we want a way to grant edit permission after accessing the link. (Not through the way of adding a collaborator and then sending a shared link to invited people)

We would like to request that you consider adding the edit permission which we can set for shared links
    in your future release.

It is very difficult for us when we want to edit files for multiple people temporarily because we have to create a dedicated area and assign the permissions every time.

It would also be very helpful if…

  19. Allow folder owner to report on collaborators in their folders

Sounds like an awesome idea! Please submit additional feedback/provide more context or let us know if you’d be open to a discussion with the product management team!

  20. Add a threaded ‘Reply’ button to comments and @mentions

When you are @mentioned, replying to the sender with @mention requires many clicks. It would be simpler to be able to reply to the sender in one click (i.e. add a comment with sender already @mentioned)
