Thank you for the suggestion. Box currently offers the ability to lock folders using the folder lock API - https://developer.box.com/reference/post-folder-locks/
We do not have a feature on our roadmap to expose this functionality from Box Drive. We will place this in our backlog as we continue evaluating ideas to improve Box Drive.
Please keep the feedback & use cases coming to help us prioritize this in the future!

We see this as well and it is a challenge for our infrastructure team to mitigate. Improved I/O management would be a huge boon for VDI functionality.
