It's especially problematic when we think that an external collaborator may have been deleting, renaming, or moving files. It can really hard to track down what happened without the ability to report on their activity.
This came up once when we knew someone had deleted one file, and we were like, "they deleted one... did they delete others?" Even though it's theoretically possible for us to retrieve from the "items I own" Trash, it was hard to figure out if there was a big problem or not.

This feature was delivered for Windows in Box Drive v2.25!
Users can now quickly preview of files in Explorer and Box Drive search without having to open these files.This feature is under consideration for macOS devices.

I would love this feature even if it were only available for folders I had available for offline access.
However, ideally, I'd be able to turn and turn off thumbnail caching for folders independently of making the entire folder offline, particularly because media files can be so large. It would be great to cache just the thumbnail.

In a sense, Box just made this happen with the way that they just changed how sharing works. I just posted sort of a counter-offer proposal, to ask that admins be able to control this as an Enterprise setting - see link for further detail:
