A related feature—the ability to open a file in Box Drive from the web app—is on our roadmap and will be an initial step toward supporting this request.    Thank you for the feedback. We do not currently have plans to add a “no action required” task type to our Tasks feature. That said, please continue to add use cases here, as we may consider in a future planning cycle.

    This limitation is due to Microsoft’s platform not allowing integrations to surface as messaging extensions (Box icon to upload and share documents). Until Microsoft supports this for third parties, Box is unable to deliver this functionality. We are working with Microsoft but there is no timeline for delivery at this point.
