  1. Displaying Tag Suggestions to Collaborators

When performing a tag-based search, content owners see tag suggestions automatically populated in the search view as they type the first few characters.

However, users who are not the content owner do not see any suggested terms, so they must already know the exact tags that have been registered.

Because there are many types of tags applied to content across the organization, it is difficult for users to always know all tags accurately.

Even for content they do not own, we would like users to see suggested tag terms during tag search for any tags that are used on content…

  2. Feature Request: Add Folder Tree View with Result Count Display in Box Search

Currently, Box's search results page does not provide a folder tree view, making it impossible for users to visually understand how search results are distributed across the folder hierarchy. Users need the ability to exclude irrelevant department folders from their search results, but there is currently no way to get an overview of the folder structure within search results. We request the addition of a folder tree view in the search results page that displays the number of hits per folder and subfolder. This would allow users to drill down into the most relevant folders and refine their searches more…

  3. Feature Request: Add File Size Sorting Option to Box Search Results

Currently, Box's search results page does not offer the ability to sort results by file size. Users have a need to sort search results by file size, particularly for identifying large files or managing storage. We request the addition of a "File Size (ascending/descending)" sorting option to the search results page.

  4. Feature Request: Display Per-Folder Result Count in Box Search

Currently, Box's search results page does not provide a breakdown of how many files match a search query within each folder. This makes it difficult for users to identify which folders contain the most relevant results and to efficiently locate target files. We request the addition of a feature that categorizes search results by folder and displays the number of hits per folder.

  6. Box Search Returns Partial-Match Results — Unable to Search for Exact Folder/File Name Only

Summary: When a user searches for a term in Box that is also a substring of another folder or file name, Box returns both the exact match and the partial matches in the search results. There is currently no way to perform an exact-match-only search in Box, which makes it difficult for users to isolate specific content when similarly named items exist.

Problem Description: Box search uses partial/substring matching by default. When a user types a search term, Box returns all items whose names contain that term — not just items whose names exactly equal the term. This behavior cannot…

  7. Feature Request: Add Updated-By (Modifier) List Display and Filter in Box Search

Currently, Box's standard search UI does not provide a list of file modifiers (updated-by users) within search results, nor does it offer the ability to filter search results by a specific modifier. Users need the ability to find files based on who last updated them, but currently this is not possible unless the user already knows the exact name of the modifier. We request the addition of a faceted search feature that displays a list of modifiers found within the search results, allowing users to select and filter by a specific modifier directly from the search results page.

  8. Default Search Everywhere

While I understand the need to search only in a folder, my company uses the search everywhere function way more.

Is there a way to make the search "everywhere" option the default instead of search "only in this folder"? It slows us down so much right now having to switch it to find a different folder without going back to the home page, or switching the search feature.

  9. If we could toggle an Alpha Numeric sorting feature rather than the current system.

As an institution that has thousands of photos that are already labeled by our current archive system, it would be incredibly helpful to have files be able to be sorted by an alpha-numeric approach. Such as, ST-A1, ST-A2, ST-A3, ST-A110 rather than ST-A1, ST-A110, ST-A2, ST-A3.

I'm suggesting introducing a toggle or dropdown sorting option, as to not mess up current systems. I understand that adding a 0 in front of numbers is the suggested method, however that would not work in this case as it would change the item's ID system. It seems to me that sorting is one…

  12. the search option is so messed up now. I am spending so much time looking for the exact folder and files I need to locate

The search option prior to 2 weeks ago was perfect. I am not sure what changed but My whole team is pending countless time on each search. please reset it to that prior setting. Or tell us how to do that. Why does all that other stuff show up before the folder with just what I am looking for?

  14. Search sorting - have the possiblity to always list exact matches at the top

The current Box search (especially when moving files) seems to prioritize folders that do not have the searched for string in their title but are seemingly selected based on recency or usage.

Many of our teams move files based on a specific string in their title to a specific folder including said string.
Since those folders are often not touched for a long period of time, the folders do sometimes not show up in search or only all the way down, with seemingly unrelated folders being displayed at the top instead.

  15. Box search results need to be sorted by "oldest first"

Box search results are currently displayed in order of "newest update date," but we have received many requests to display them in order of "oldest update date."

  16. Add the ability to search by uploader

We'd like to see the ability to search for files by uploader name. Since searching by owner is basically useless if the file is uploaded by someone other than the folder owner, having the ability to search by the uploader would make it a lot easier to find files uploaded by a particular user if you don't have the file name on hand.

  17. Ability to search files by SHA1 value

Currently, the Box File APIs can give data about the SHA1 values, and these present in Shield Alerts also. It would be very beneficial to be able to also search by SHA1 values.

    Key use cases:
    1. Detection of duplicate content within Box to save storage space, consolidate data and reduce version management.
    2. File correlation across systems (i.e. using SHA1 to correlate Box files with external security tools / malware scans)
    3. Better compliance and chain-of-custody (ensuring files are unchanged)

    SHA1 values are referenced here:

  18. Tags

I am tagging all my documents for easy filing and searching. It would be great if
    1) i could save tag searches for future use
    2) be able to see a list of the tags i have created so I can edit, add, delete whatever tag(s) i want.

  19. Enable Advanced Boolean Search Filters When Exporting Legal Hold Content

While Box allows export of content under Legal Hold, the workflow lacks Boolean search capabilities to refine the export dataset. Users can’t currently apply logical conditions like AND, OR, NOT, or grouping filters (e.g., "contract AND 2023" OR "proposal NOT draft") before exporting files. This limitation forces bulk exports and requires manual filtering post-download.

    Proposed Enhancement:
Integrate Boolean search operators into the Legal Hold export interface.

Allow users to construct logical queries across file content, metadata, filename, custodian, date range, and folder path.

Enable advanced filters: (“Project A” AND “budget”) OR (“legal hold” NOT “archived”).

    Display matching results with export…

  20. Enable Full‑Text Search‑Based Filtering When Exporting Legal Hold Content

The current Legal Hold export workflow in Box does not allow for full-text search within held content before exporting. This means customers must export entire holds and then filter or search locally, which is inefficient and can result in unnecessarily large export volumes.

For effective eDiscovery and compliance investigations, full-text search is critical to quickly locate and export only the most relevant documents. This capability should work across folders, user data, and file contents, not just filenames or metadata
