As some commenters noted, files are not cached automatically when users access a folder. Rather, the metadata on the files within a folder get cached. Files themselves will only be cached/downloaded if a user double-clicks on them.

Hello!
We're excited to let you know that we're currently actively working on SFTP implementation at Box. The initial version will be modeled after our trusted FTPS server, but we're eager to improve the experience of using it, so if you happen to have suggestions or ideas we should take into consideration – whether that involves authentication, performance, compatibility or any other matter, do not shy away from letting us know and get in touch.
Thanks in advance and speak soon.

would be nice.. especially if Box is trying to be the FTP replacement solution. SFTP is the most common FTP for regulated industries.

This is strange since not environments have this flaw. I work with another customer on Box and their SSO page properly redirects no matter what you put in whereas my will redirect you to MY SSO which no external user has an account with.
this needs to be worked out, it is killing adoption with our external partners.

This capability is not currently planned. Please see the Device Trust feature, which can be used in this case.

This is an absolute must. The reason why this isn't up voted higher is a lot of Admins don't realize the security risk of allowing users to sync their data on any unprotected device they want.
Device trust can work but its not support unless your on a enterprise plan and Pinning is support on a Business plan. This is a huge discrepancy.

We do not have near-term plans to add this capability right now. You might be able to get a similar effect by using Device Trust on those endpoints and requiring a specific certificate on a device, which is limited to just those groups of users.

This is a problem with any Box integration. It's all or nothing. Device Trust is not available for everyone and also it doesn't apply to every single app, just the Box ones. This is a serious oversight. You need to have groups for applications so you can say "Marketing only has access to CRM and Box", "Admins only have access to these new apps to test" etc. Right now this is half delivered functionality.

We understand the request, but unfortunately this is not on the near-term roadmap. We are currently prioritizing automatically locking/unlocking files on Box Drive for Office files on Windows. We will revisit this feature in the future.

Box Drive should only cache files that are actually accessed. This seems like a disaster waiting to happen, if we were to accidentally access our user backups folder with terabytes of data, Box drive would try and cache everything?
