NCSC (https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/) recommends length over complexity and most companies have a minimum length requirement in their InfoSec policy that's longer than 12 characters.

Our Information Security team suggested to disable the Shared Link functionality due the lack of enforced passwords.
Shared links is the most asked for feature by our users. There are scenarios where they cannot invite people as external collaborators and they need something as simple as a Shared link.
Since we cannot enable it in Box, they are forced to use a different platform.Anonymous

Without this Classification is a feature that lives only in the Web App.
Most of our user base is using Box Drive to interact with content in Box and for them Classification isn't visible.Anonymous

Instead of “require password” security control, we intend to support “Require OTP” requirement for public links (via SMS, Email, or TOTP). I wanted to share where we are headed. We do not plan on delivering this ask as is, but we do intend to solve the security use case behind it.

Mandatory passwords for share links is an essential security layer without which we cannot enable share links on our EID. Password auto-generation would ensure that the appropriate password was generated.
