  1. Display warning if you are opening a file in, for example, Word Desktop when someone else has it open in Word Online.

I know that you can see that teeny icon in the upper right of the preview window when someone is editing the file in Word Online, for example. But it would be great if there were a warning that pops up to tell you that someone has it open in Online, and to warn you of the consequences of editing it in Desktop. Users get really freaked out when they get the conflict error after the fact, and a warning would at least explain the consequences.

  2. Share this Folder

On a shared (collaborated) folder ensure that the "Share this Folder" option is removed from all external collaborators as testing has shown that it is possible for an external collaborator (even with viewer permissions) to enable sharing and get a copy of the shared link albeit the link defaults to “internal access” only.

  3. Indicate whether a user is a managed user or app user in Admin event stream

Adding a parameter in the Admin event stream which indicates whether the user that took an action was a managed user or app user would make it more efficient for administrators or analytics tools to separate activity by the different user types. In an active enterprise the volume of events may be very great, and having this additional level of specificity would simplify reporting.

  4. Better error message for device limits

If there is a device limit set, the error message when you try logging in from another device should read something similar to: You have reached the max number of devices

  5. Allow users to click through hyperlinks in preview rather than having user download content

    This applies to...
    — PDFs
    — PowerPoints
    And other similar file types

  6. Improve CORS whitelist wildcard support

I would love to be able to use wildcards in CORS with a little more specificity. In particular, for review apps on Heroku, you will have a url that is auto-generated for each pull request, so something like http://my-app-dev-pr-523.herokuapp.com. I would like to be able to add http://my-app-dev-pr.herokuapp.com to the CORS list but it currently flags that is an improper URL so I have to do the much more broad (less secure) http://.herokuapp.com

  7. More specific error messages when uploads fail

When manually uploading a new version of a file, I received a "Some Uploads Fail" message. Only later did I see it was because there was another file of the same name in the folder. The error message should be more specific to this problem.

  8. Metadata Versioning History

As we need to meet specific regulatory or compliance requirements, it's helpful to have a history of the metadata attributes that are applied to a folder or file.

It would be ideal if this was versioned on files/folders in the UI or reportable via user reports.

  9. Allow Searching by Last Name - Invite Collaborators / Email Shared Link / Comment @Mentions

In the Invite Collaborators modal (and other locations such as the Comment composer), Box's autocomplete feature only allows the user to search by either email address and/or first AND last name. Meaning for user John Doe with email jdoe@box.com, a search for...--"John D" will populate correctly--"jdoe" will populate correctly--"Doe" will NOT populate correctly REQUEST: Allow searching by last name (without having to enter first name before).

  11. Usage Logs - Better Reporting when Shared Link Permissions are Changed

Right now you can see WHEN a user changed the value of a shared link (closed to open for example) but not to what, so if a link was changed, we have to guess as to what level of access. This seems like a gap security wise and may lead to us shutting down shared links.

  12. Group-Level Sharing Controls: Control sharing permissions at the Group level

This request is specific to controlling external sharing permissions and defaults by Group. For example, an admin should be able to permit whether a Group can generate Open Shared Links, invite external collaborators, and the default shared link permission that is generated, even if users in that Group are within a folder that has external sharing enabled.

  13. Folder transfer takes too long - user loses access

Currently when content is transferred from one owner to another owner, collaborators lose access to the transferred content until the move is complete. Depending on the size of the move it can be an extended period until collaborators can access the content

  14. SSO auto-provisioning via mobile

We're running into an issue with their largely mobile workforce around SSO auto-provisioning via mobile. There is a pretty significant population of users who have attempted to log in for the first time via the Box for EMM app without having previously created a managed user account through the web app.

  16. Respect the EID's Shared Link Default when Using 'Upload & Attach' in Outlook to Save to 'All Files'

When using Box for Office inside of Outlook, specifically using the 'Upload and Attach' button when composing a new email, users are able to choose a Shared Link access level (such as 'people with the link') even if that access level is disabled in their EID. Once the user clicks upload, they receive an error because the shared link was not able to be generated due to that restriction. This behavior specifically occurs when the user is choosing to save to their 'All Files' page when using the Upload & Attach feature.

If the user chooses a specific folder (a…
