Box Drive Warning When File Path is too Long
There is a known issue with Box Drive that if a file path is exceeds a character count limit, then the file cannot be opened on desktop, however it can be opened via Box on the web. The issue is, when a user has a file on their desktop, that has a current file path within the character count limits, then moves the file to Box Drive within Windows Explorer and the new path in box exceeds the character limits. As of now, the user can copy and paste into Box Drive and not realize that their new path will prevent them from opening the file on the desktop. The update and solution should be to warn the user that upon copying that if they paste the file it will exceed the character limits. Possibly even add that this will prevent opening the document on the desktop, but still can within the browser. This will give the user notice and the ability to cancel the request for good, or go back and change the name before they copy the file so it's within legal limits.

Alternate would be to add a global setting to prevent Box Web and Box Drive from allowing creation of files longer than a maximum path length and flagging those that are. This is a problem we frequently encounter using files sync'd to the computer.

Hoping someone can try the following in Box:
Recently I was working on a file, which I could not remove from a PC.
The reason, was the path was too long for that file, but under properties for that file, the name was small as C:/Users/Desktop/Azass~1.PDF when in reality it was “Azasssjaksakjskajkaskaj sjkas jaksj ksjha sjah jas jsjh asj shaj hsahjahsa 01” It was much longer.
If we can enable file name shortening on box drive, it might help a lot of users who open long file names?

Is there any new update here? This seems like a basic thing that needs to be fixed. Any other update or solution here?

Have a similar issue where someone is trying to open an Excel file from Box Drive on their Win10 machine but cannot do so because the path exceeds the character limit. Throwing some type of error will help prevent this issue and help people resolve this issue on their own before reaching out to our support or Box's support team.
