Slack: Show Preview of Box Files within Slack
Currently, the Box + Slack integration auto-unfurls Box shared links that are posted into a DM/Channel in slack.
The only Box file type that unfurls to a native (in-line) preview are image files (jpg, png, etc.).
Slack has a native preview for a video file uploaded directly in Slack, but no preview for the same file when shared via Box.
REQUEST: Add in the native (in-line) preview (that already exists for image files shared from Box) for many more common file types (Office files, PDFs, mp4s, etc.) -- possibly by leveraging the Box Preview API.

Shared Link Lookup Tool
Problem: Admins often need to do investigation of files stored in Box and all they have to go off of is the file/folder's shared link. Since admins can't search by shared link in the current Content Manager UI, a Shared Link Lookup tool would provide similar information.
Key Features:
-Provide ability to enter a shared link (standard or vanity URL)
-Information returned after searching:
-File/folder name
-File/folder owner
-File/folder location (Owner -> Folder hierarchy)
-Status (whether the file/folder has been deleted or not)
-Admin-level 'delete' (ability for the admin to delete the file on the spot)54 votes -
Allow group admins to search for all managed users
Currently, group admins can add any managed user into their group, but searching for users will not auto-populate unless the user is already in a group that they manage.
2 votesThis is addressed by the recent Team Leads / Group Admin updates.

Visual Indicator on Folders with External Collaborators
Currently, when a folder has external collaborators in it, we show a small globe icon for that collaborator in the Collaborators list (sidebar + full collabs page), but no other visual indicator at the folder level.
Often, users want to quickly know "is this folder shared with anyone external/outside my company?" without having to manually comb through the full list of collaborators.
REQUEST: Add a visual indicator (either folder color, icon, 'tag'/label, etc.) at the folder level (visible from within the folder and possibly from the files list as a badge) to indicate when a folder has external collaborators in…

Prevent installation of .msi Box Edit if per-user .exe is already installed
Users get access to Box before their IT team deploys Box Edit.
End users start using Box Edit by downloading/installing the .exe installer.
Then their IT team deploys the .msi version. This results in Box Edit issues (usually "Box Edit does not support this file type" errors) and requires their IT team to clean up the per-user installs.
19 votesWe’ve already resolved this issue. The new MSI install should fail in this case.

Native Picture Storage - No More 'Box Notes Images' Folder
Adding a photo to a Box note currently creates a 'Box Notes Images' folder in the parent folder where the Box Note is located. This seems somewhat odd and unintuitive, especially with the shared link permission quirks with the photos.
To resolve this, Box Notes should natively 'store' the pictures within the Box Note itself and not as part of a separate 'Box Notes Images' folder.

Ability to control and mute email notifications that comes from tasks
Whenever a task is assigned via an automation, that task is assigned by the main admin, who will also receive email notifications regarding the task.
Because this is done through automations, the admin will get flooded with emails about the task, which is not desirable in a large organization.
1 voteTasks emails from Relay will now come from the person who created workflow, rather than the main company admin.

Enable dragging and dropping both emails and attachments from Outlook to various destinations including HTML5 pages (aka the Box Web App).
Users receive a a Webapp error currently when they try to drag an email/attachment from Outlook and into a folder in the Box Web App UI.

Folder-Level Metadata Exposed in the Webapp UI

Maintain Metadata when Copying a File
Currently, Metadata (custom metadata and applied metadata templates/values) that's been added to a file is NOT maintained when a file is copied in Box. This request is to add the functionality - perhaps as an option in the 'Copy' flow - to copy a file's Metadata as well.
32 votesThere is a toggle you can set (via the V2 API) on a template to indicate that you’d like the MD to remain on item copy. See “copyInstanceOnItemCopy” at https://developer.box.com/reference/resources/metadata-template/.

Flexible Retention Policies including ability to override existing policies if necessary
The inflexibility of current retention policies does not allow customers to meet all of their legal obligations. Currently, if a retention policy is placed on a document, it is not possible to permanently delete the document before the retention period is completed.
While these retention policies settings may work (and are required) for FINRA compliance, they cannot be used for all use cases. For example, if an organization reaches a legal settlement, and part of the settlement is the destruction of certain content (either one user's content or content specific to the case), this request cannot be completed.
18 votesIntroducing modifiable retention policies in Box Governance!
Box Governance allows organizations to manage their content’s lifecycle by powering business processes with flexible retention schedules, preserving content for defensible discovery, and managing the disposition of content. From the start we built Box Governance for highly regulated industries and our existing retention policy type was intentionally designed to be non-modifiable. As Box has grown, we have seen the need to expand our retention policies and are excited to announce Box Governance now has two types of retention policies - modifiable and non-modifiable.
Modifiable retention policies will provide flexibility as external regulatory environments or internal governance policies change. Modifiable retention policies allow customers to implement retention policies with the ability to modify them later. This will allow for both the creation and modification of policies, including shortening of retention policies, as well as making policy changes retroactively to content already under retention. For…
