Notify users when a folder-path download will exceed 256 characters
When a user downloads a folder-path that exceeds the Windows 256 character limit, alongside the standard folder structure, Box creates a “_” folder and to hold the files with a Box shortened folder paths, so it can work-around the over-long file-paths. Since Box doesn’t tell the user what to expect, they think that the download is missing files and isn’t functioning correctly.
To address user confusion, we want Box to add alerts about the folder and file path name limits in three places:
- When a user creates a folder name for the first time,
- When a user downloads an affected folder and
- As a text note within an affected downloaded folder itself (so someone receiving the zip file understands what they’re looking at)
