Allow to freeze file and folders
Allow to freeze file and folders, which will not allow any collaborators including the owner to perform any changes to files and folders. Example: prevent creating new versions of the files, prevent moving content to trash, prevent change of metadata etc. Basically complete lock, which can only be unlocked at the end of a retention period. The purpose is to manage enterprise records. May be some sort of retention policy that lets us do the above. The current lock feature does not provide the level of freeze we are looking for.

Hi, circling back on this - can a Box folder be frozen? For the reasons that Rohit described, this is an important feature. Thank you.

This is required in the context of Files/Folders under Retention or Legal Hold. We do not want users making any changes to these files for compliance purposes. Sometimes even folders if its created to maintain a final set of documents. Some government records just cannot be modified or moved or deleted until their end of life in the Records Life Cycle.

As per record policy once the a file is under retention or legal hold that file cannot be trashed, changed. At the end of the lifecycle the file either is completed deleted or it is send to National Archives or could be presented in the court of law. There is also an impact to organizational users where when accessing a record for reference or informational purposes they are assuming that it is what it was when the author applied retention to it but the way things work currently anyone can create new version of a record and since by default a preview always shows latest version this can lead to legal complications as the newer version was never under governance. We want users should not be able to do changes to a file once in retention. So a type of retention and legal hold policy that will allow us to restrict ability to make any changes to a file over and beyond the permission sets based on user roles.

Please provide some context on the challenge you are trying to solve. One of our principles is not to disrupt users, and freezing content can be quite disruptive.
