Box web UI does not clarify whether download capability is available for a shared folder
When logged into the web app on both Firefox and Safari for macOS, I see options to open a particular shared folder file (PDF format) by opening it in Adobe Acrobat.
However, I later receive the error message "There was a problem completing your request. Please try again".
I'd strongly suggest against such generic error messages. It is possible that the opening of the file in this way does not succeed due to folder permissions. Perhaps I am not granted access to this folder or file to do anything other than view the document inline. The thing is, I do not see any active and clarifying messaging to confirm this.
If there are cases in which I have preview and inline view only but where I am not intended to be provided the ability to download, I'd prefer to see a greyed out action item like "Download / Save As (not available with your current permissions - contact owner)". This is just one example of messaging that would clarify the details.
Also, I would suggest that a potential action of opening with Adobe Acrobat is confusing, because I don't know if the option comes with the prerequisite of having Acrobat and/or a browser extension installed, or whether that's just simply a synonym for the built-in ability of an operating system to handle PDF files, which is significantly more common.
However I'd say that biggest friction is that Box is exposing a flow for a user to choose an option and then it leads to failure and an uninformative error message. I uncovered this one small example but I wanted to suggest Box consider this as an experience of friction that may apply elsewhere in the product as well. And as such, this may stand to gain from am improvement.
