Ability to access Sub-links under shared folders on mobile
Our agency staff commonly sends out content links to customers by navigating to a file or folder under an existing shared folder link, then copying that link and directing customers to the specific content without creating an additional shared link. This is valuable to us because we don't want hundreds of shared links, the original content owner may not be available and we want to direct our customers as quickly and precisely as possible.
However, we found that there is an issue with this method. Those sub-links work just fine for someone with a desktop browser, but if you try it on a mobile device you get the error 'This shared file/folder has been removed'. While you can get around this by either going into the menu and selecting 'Desktop site' or by providing the mobile link, it causes a lot of frustration and confusion in the meantime. In addition, the mobile link format doesn't play nice with SharePoint, so we end up doing additional workarounds to make that work!
We have submitted tickets regarding this issue, but it was indicated that this was expected behavior and a security feature. However, we believe it should work the same regardless of the platform, for both mobile and desktop! The solution recommended was to create a new sharing link for every file or folder being referenced. However, this is not a viable solution, as the content is changing constantly and staff that don’t own the content often need to send links to our customers. Our customers are often not tech savvy, so asking them to navigate down several levels to find the files is also problematic.
The easiest solution, in my opinion, is when detecting a mobile browser (already happening), doing an automatic redirect to the equivelent mobile link. If this feature could be implemented, it would really help us out! Thanks
