split PST files
I have a large PST file in Outlook that’s becoming difficult to manage due to its size and also difficult to handle as well as. That’s why i would like to split them into smaller, more manageable files to improve performance and avoid any kinds of issue.
Can anyone recommend the best way to safely split a PST file without losing any data? Specifically, I’m looking for guidance on:
Are any reliable third-party utilities that can help split large PST files or should I go for manual method?

If your PST file has become too large, then yes — splitting it into smaller PSTs is a good idea because oversized Outlook data files often slow down Outlook performance and can sometimes increase the risk of corruption.
You can use either the manual method or a professional PST splitter utility depending on your requirements.
Manual Method (Free but Time-Consuming):
You can create a new PST file in Outlook and manually move/export emails by year, folder, or date range. This works fine for smaller mailboxes, but for very large PST files it becomes lengthy and there’s always a chance of missing emails or breaking folder hierarchy if not done carefully. Reddit users also mention that manual exporting requires multiple passes and Outlook installation.
For a safer and faster approach, many users prefer dedicated PST splitter tools.
One reliable option is the FreeViewer PST Splitter. It can split PST files by:• Size
• Date
• Year
• Folder
• Email ID

The tool also preserves folder structure, emails, contacts, calendars, and attachments during the process. Another useful advantage is that it works even without Outlook installation. According to the official feature list, it supports both ANSI and Unicode PST files and can handle very large PST sizes safely.
I would personally suggest:
• Use the manual method only if your PST is small and you just need basic archiving.
• Use a professional utility like FreeViewer PST Splitter if the PST is very large, corrupted, or if you want a safer automated process without risking data loss. Also make sure to keep a backup copy of the original PST before splitting it.

If your PST file has grown too large, splitting it is a good idea to improve Outlook’s performance and avoid data corruption.
You have two main options:
1. Manual Method (Free):
You can create new PST files in Outlook and move folders or emails manually. It's simple but time-consuming and lacks filtering options.2. Third-Party Tool:
For a faster and safer option, I recommend the SysTools PST Splitter. It allows you to split by size, date, year, or folder and ensures no data loss. I’ve tried it after struggling with a few other tools that didn’t work properly. If your PST is very large, using a professional tool is more efficient and reliable.
