Explain navigation mode
Choosing the navigation mode (trackpad or mouse) is not evident and the navigation is not natural when you are on trackpad mode but using a mouse. Ther should be an interface explaining it is possible to change it

I had the same issue when I started with Canvas I thought the Mouse Navigation mode was not working as it was not obvious to me that the pointer tool had to be deselected.

Pointer should be the default mouse, with panning being a tool. Additionally, panning should be optionally possible via middle mouse button + dragging or ctrl+click and dragging.

For the longest time, I thought the mouse navigation mode was broken because I couldn't pan around the image. Finally, someone else figured out that the pointer tool had to be deselected. It was not at all obvious to me.
