We evaluated this previously, but have decided not to make changes yet given the user experience tradeoffs. If we get more requests of this, we can re-evaluate.

Allow admins greater control of Box Edit upgrade process
When Box Edit automatically upgrades upon the release of a new version, there is no way for Admins to stop it and then allow the update at a more optimal time. This can be very troubling for companies with large deployment with the .MSI.
After installation or an upgrade, a user needs to either manually launch Box Edit.exe and Box Local Com Service.exe or log out of their user account and log back in to get the processes running.
At a large scale, this just is not practical and causes a lot of confusion for users and admins alike.

Add ability to dismiss problem items if the user does not want to address the issue
For example, a Box item's name has characters that Windows does not support.
The user wishes to keep the name as is and doesn't need to see the item locally.
With Box Sync, they could just unsync the folder to avoid the problem item. With Box Drive, they cannot avoid the problem item.

Ability to lock files from within application once they're open
Our users would like the ability to lock a file once they have already opened a file in Box Edit/Box Drive/Box for Office.
They would like the ability to do this within the document without having to navigate back to the webapp or sync to lock the file.
9 votesBox for Office automatically locks a file when it’s being worked on. We don’t currently have plans to do this or Box Edit.

Outlook: Add Ability to Save the Email Itself (the .msg file or a PDF of it), Not Just the Attachment
There are use cases (given Box's retention capabilities) for users to save Outlook emails themselves (.msg files) to Box using Box for Office. The Box for Office integration currently only allows the user to 'Save Attachments to Box', which doesn't save the actual email itself.
SPECIFIC REQUEST: Adjust the 'Save Attachments to Box' button/feature to include an option to save the email itself (as a PDF or the .msg file) to Box along with the attachment.

Subfolder Sync: Don't Sync the Files Located in the Parent Folder Path
One of the nuances of Box Sync 4.X's 'subfolder sync' feature is that files that are located in the folders of the parent path for the synced subfolder are also synced, which creates a weird, and unexpected, experience for end users.
Reference: https://community.box.com/t5/Box-Sync/How-Do-I-Sync-Subfolders-In-Box-Sync-4-0/ta-p/116
REQUEST: Fix this behavior so that even when only a subfolder is marked for 'syncing', none of the files in the parent folders are also inadvertently synced, and instead only sync the parent folders to keep the path in tact.

Outlook: Option for Attaching Actual File (Not the Shared Link)
Allow user to attach actual file (not the shared link) when using the 'Attach from Box' button within Outlook (via Box for Office).
Currently when a user uses the 'Attach from Box' button in Outlook, they're only able to add the file's shared link to the email. There are various scenarios where users (still) need to attach the actual file instead.
2 votesThis does not align with our product philosophy. Users can attach a shared link with download permissions.
I would be interested to hear the use case for attaching files directly to the email.

LAN Sync
Feature similar to DB: LAN sync is a Dropbox feature that speeds syncing dramatically when the file exists on your Local Area Network (LAN).
What does that mean exactly? Well, when you add a file to your computer's Dropbox, the file is then synced with Dropbox servers. Dropbox will then initiate the syncing process as soon as it determines a change has been made to the file.
All linked computers and shared folders will then download any new version of the file. With LAN syncing, Dropbox will look for the new file on your Local Area Network first, bypassing the…
