Require Editing ONLY via Office Online for Certain Files (disable Box Edit at the file level)
Use Case: I have a spreadsheet that I know will be highly collaborative; as such, I want to prevent people from being able to use Box Edit with the file and I want to require that they edit it using Office Online due to enhanced co-authoring, etc.
Basically, this would be a 'only allow edits using Office Online'-type setting at the file level.
We have considered this but this is not on our roadmap currently

Please consider adding this feature - we are discussing moving to another collaboration software for this reason. It would make BOX so much more useful!!!!

Agree 100%. This simple weakness has cost us hundreds of hours as multiple versions of documents are created when inevitably one editor uses the desktop edit feature instead of the online edit. It should be a simple right click to set how a document can be edited.

This is so needed. This is why people prefer Google Docs for this reason exactly. There are so many times that I have worked with large teams (60+ people) editing and accessing a document only for multiple collaborators edits to be lost.
Please update your software for the modern era. The 2010's were 4 years ago.

Fully agree .. would be really helpful. Very surprised box don't support this feature yet.

Any update on this? Thread started in 2019 and 2024 is just around the corner. Come on box!

Ridiculous this feature is not supported.

MS Sharepoint has this feature and one of the reason I prefer it over Box. Unfortunately my organization uses Box and versioning always gets messed up when I have a file that require a big group to work on it collaboratively

Another for the "Yes Please" pile.
This would be helpful

This is a must as some users just don't "get it" and have to be forced into the collaborative environment.

For big companies with a lot of shared files this is a MUST!
Any update on this one? -

Agreed that this would be very helpful in ensuring there is no loss of data on certain documents. As a related concept it would also be helpful to allow requiring locking for documents at a document, folder, or tenant level. The latter would not necessarily solve the issues of the former and I would consider them separate requests.

Supporting this concept. It would make some workflows significantly more stable.

The ability to flag a document or folder to only be edited with MS-Office online and hence preventing users to open it with their local MS-Office installation would ease up our collaboration by a lot! Please consider to implement this!

PLEASE DEVELOP THIS!
a very simple feature, to be able to select how we want users to interact with a workbook.
So that we can block users from creating multiple copies, and force them to do Excel ONline. -

Please turns this feature on, i have lots of co authoring users being able to open online or full office is creating new versions all over the place. I really don't want to have to move some files over to SharePoint.

This is definitely a desired feature. Any progress?

This functionality will go a long way to help with data loss prevention.

This would be super helpful for us. Version control is a big problem and this could prevent. Please consider adding at a file or folder level.

This is needed.
