Disabling the "Get Box Sync" setting in end users' Account Settings Menu
When a user signs into their Box account, they have the option to view their account settings toolbar. One of the settings is Get Box Sync, which directs users to the Box website with the Sync installer.
However, for large organizations, end users do not have administrative privileges to install such a tool. In these situations, customers use a deployment tool to assist in pushing (or making available) the tool to end users. By using these tools, end users do not require admin privileges to install the tool.
Having this option in the UI is confusing to end users and is frustrating to IT departments at large institutions, as they will receive more support tickets from users who click on that option, instead of using the designated deployment tool.
These large institutions would like this menu option to be toggle-able so they can turn it off.
It is possible for the admin to disable the “get sync” message in web app (because we copied that functionality to allow admins to disable “get Mobile” as well). If the admin disables this, then it should meet the request above. We don’t have any plans to allow users themselves to suppress this message from user account settings.
