LAN Sync
Feature similar to DB: LAN sync is a Dropbox feature that speeds syncing dramatically when the file exists on your Local Area Network (LAN).
What does that mean exactly? Well, when you add a file to your computer's Dropbox, the file is then synced with Dropbox servers. Dropbox will then initiate the syncing process as soon as it determines a change has been made to the file.
All linked computers and shared folders will then download any new version of the file. With LAN syncing, Dropbox will look for the new file on your Local Area Network first, bypassing the…

This is available to set up in a custom environment. However, we do not plan to create an in-product solution to address this need.

Support Kerberos Authentication for Macs (Box for Desktop)
We require authentication for all traffic on our corporate networks/proxies.
We leverage Kerberos and request full support of the Kerberos protocol for all calls made by Box for Desktop.
Context: Currently, Box Sync supports Kerberos for the login flow (due to the Sync login page being an embedded WebKit browser which DOES support Kerberos), but Box Sync doesn't actually support Kerberos for its own network requests (that happen after the login flow).

Subfolder Sync: Don't Sync the Files Located in the Parent Folder Path
One of the nuances of Box Sync 4.X's 'subfolder sync' feature is that files that are located in the folders of the parent path for the synced subfolder are also synced, which creates a weird, and unexpected, experience for end users.
Reference: https://community.box.com/t5/Box-Sync/How-Do-I-Sync-Subfolders-In-Box-Sync-4-0/ta-p/116
REQUEST: Fix this behavior so that even when only a subfolder is marked for 'syncing', none of the files in the parent folders are also inadvertently synced, and instead only sync the parent folders to keep the path in tact.

Ability to lock files from within application once they're open
Our users would like the ability to lock a file once they have already opened a file in Box Edit/Box Drive/Box for Office.
They would like the ability to do this within the document without having to navigate back to the webapp or sync to lock the file.
9 votesBox for Office automatically locks a file when it’s being worked on. We don’t currently have plans to do this or Box Edit.

Setting to adjust Box Edit startup launch when MSI is installed
User would like to a way to prevent Box Edit and Box Local Comm Service from running upon startup. They have the MSI installed and all users in their environment do not utilize Box Edit. User would like a way to prevent Box Edit/Local Comm Service from launching for those users who do not utilize Box Edit.
It still doesn't make sense to have to have the process running for all users when not everyone would be using the application. This would be applicable to both a virtual and non virtual environment since the same settings would apply to computers…

Support Kerberos on Macs
Box currently supports NTLM V2 on Windows Box Sync, but only support NTLM v1 (with a keychain entry) on Mac Box Sync. Additionally, Kerberos is supported in the login flow (via the embedded browser) but not for the actual network requests that Box Sync makes.
As such, some organizations would like Box Sync to fully support Kerberos as an authentication method for the login process AND for all network requests.
Request: Add full authentication support for Kerberos.

Outlook: Option for Attaching Actual File (Not the Shared Link)
Allow user to attach actual file (not the shared link) when using the 'Attach from Box' button within Outlook (via Box for Office).
Currently when a user uses the 'Attach from Box' button in Outlook, they're only able to add the file's shared link to the email. There are various scenarios where users (still) need to attach the actual file instead.
2 votesThis does not align with our product philosophy. Users can attach a shared link with download permissions.
I would be interested to hear the use case for attaching files directly to the email.

Auto-update Python
The version of Python that is installed with Sync doesn't auto update. Concerned about security vulnerability.
0 votesPython 2.7 and 3 are both supported releases. Python 2.7 will be supported through 2020.
We review and update our python version periodically through Sync auto-update. We currently use python 2.7.9 with Box Sync. We plan to update to the latest version (2.7.11+).
We only install Python to Box specific location on Windows (%ProgramFiles%\Box\Box Sync) and Mac (inside Box Sync.app bundle). Other applications will not use our python installation.
We reviewed the CVE list of Python and there’s no CVE that requires immediate update from 2.7.9.

Add "Cancel" Button to dialog window when removing a folder from Box Sync
When deleting a folder through Box Sync, a confirm deletion window pops up and warns the user that deleting the folder will remove it from all collaborator accounts but unsyncing will remove the folder from their computer only.
It then only gives the option to click the buttons "unsync" or "delete". User thinks there should be an option to cancel to better account for user errors.
