Box Drive: Change cache location
It would be really awesome to allow the box drive cache location to be placed somewhere other than C:\Users<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Box\Box\cache, say on on a separate volume that doesn't consume space on C: (boot / application drive). Ideally I would like to place it on my second ssd D:

The Need to Move all your Box Files to a different drive is Extremely important, especially in a corporate account where you may have well over a terrabyte of info to store locally
I work in the AV/Expo/Corporate/trade show industry, work a lot on show site
sometimes on multiple show sites....
I have a 4TB secondary hard drive in my laptop that I currently have to copy folders from box over into that drive
and then make online only, and make a different folder available locally, copy some more, and then make it offline... rinse and repeat...ALL of this would be solved by simply making it so we could choose the folder sync location
I can understand disallowing an external USB hard drive...
but why not at least allow All non removable internal, connected to SATA or NVME/M.2 drives...
if my company forces me to use this ****** software, at least make it so I can store all my files on a different internal drive. -

It's 2024. It's insane Box Drive doesn't support this basic functionality,

@Box, please explain to me why this most-wanted and important feature is kept pending for years.

Is there any progress on this most-wanted feature since Apr 2020?
This is a most important and yet basic feature requested by millions of users - please give the option to set the default folder location!!
Despite numerous votes and requests for years, why are you failing to consider this #1 feature?
The default root folder in Mac or Windows will always be full, and 90% of users would want to keep Box files separately in a separate drive or folders. So, this is your terrible idea of not giving this critical option!!
Please you (Box) DO NOT decide where the user's files and folders should go, but give an explicit option to set and configure.
Currently, your Box client app on my Mac is turning useless as I cannot download/upload all files via my root folder!!
Please escalate, prioritize, fix, and release this most wanted feature ASAP.

Absolutely can`t understand why this function is not available. Especially, since BoxSync no longer exists and I can`t store my own files locally at all anymore. I mean fully store locally. I really dislike this about Box Drive but even more so without being able to select the path for the cache folder. My C drive on all my computers is usually not huge. But more than enough space on all other (external) drives. Please change this!

I am an IT person for several companies that use box. Not being able to change the file location is ridiculous. This is such a basic concept that it shouldn't even need to be discussed, but somehow needs to be asked for by users as a new idea? For 5 years? Please make this option available asap. As a company who recommends software to their clients, we have plenty of options available and this is a sure negative.

Still "Under Consideration"???
Bad form...

How this is still not possible, blows my mind. We are in 2024!

I have a 1 TB primary drive a 2 TB second drive that is 90% open - my primary drive fills up rapidly due to the Box Cache (despite of course, me mounting it on the second drive as discussed in this thread). In any case, it is irritating for me being on a data-heavy project, to always have to find the large subfolders and mark them for online-only. So I also wish to vote for not assuming C: is the right place for the Box Drive Cache.

With the amount on different industries using Box for sharing files with remote workers, this should be a no brainer.
I'm a freelancer that works in video, and half my clients use Box to share projects. Being able to sync the project to my NAS drive, rather than my C drive would allow me to actually work without the fear of my drive filling up and wasting time offlining files I'll need later, just to download new assets.Get it together. People have been suggesting this for 4 years.

This would be incredibly useful and it's kind of crazy that it isn't an option already

This issue has existed for years, and I am surprised that it has not been fixed yet. My school offers unlimited Box storage so I have used it so far, but it seems I need to find alternative storage as I graduate.

I signed up yesterday and only later did I realize that I won't be able to use it because I can't install it outside the "c". I need to cancel urgently.

Shocking this not possible! Macs often have small internal boot drives, yet I need to collaborate on a project with more than 1TB of space to be used! Unsuitable for professional file collaboration unless you can keep the 'offline files' aka cached files in a user-defined folder which could be on a drive other than the boot drive.

This is required with large data files as the buffer size is not big enough on my local HD drive as compared with a larger SSD.
This will add a lot of versatility to the software!
Thanks

January 8, 2019, to January 8, 2024. FIVE YEARS. Still "Under consideration" (since April 2020) but no progress towards actual implementation?
This product is unusable for us without the ability to control with cached files (incl files marked for offline use) live. System C drives are small these days, on nearly all shipping systems (as they should be), with separate larger volumes for bulk data.

Together with the rejected "Show properly in search" feature THIS feature is so obvious and it is sad that it is ignored for years now. "Box sync" could do it but has other issues.

I am not able to set a different disk as the cache / local storage drive than disk C. That said box is not usable at all without this feature. I don´t know anybody who has an 8TB set as a C drive (OS).

We would like to have Box drive (and cache) have the ability to be installed on a different drive then the C drive. We would like to have Box Drive be placed onto a secondary drive that we can then encrypt to prevent potential documentation leaks if a system was to be compromised, stolen, lost.
