Manual pause syncing
Sometimes I want to reorder / organize / rename files before syncing.
Thank you for the suggestion. We currently do not have this planned on our roadmap.
Please keep the feedback & use cases coming to help us prioritize this in the future!

This is killing me when traveling. We work with large 3d and video files that take a long time to sync. Sometimes I may start syncing in one physical location but then have to leave and am on a slow connection for several days, but once the files are marked to sync, they will eat up all available bandwidth trying to sync even on the slow connection. This makes doing anything else that much slower. You should also be able to cancel offline sync, for similar reasons.

This functionality is very important to me while traveling and am on fast wifi connections only at times. I currently have a number of very large files that are bogging down my connection every time I'm on a fast wifi. I want to upload them eventually but they're not a priority at the moment and the only way to work around this is to quit Box drive.

A great example of needing the manual pause, is using NPM. I have a project repo synced to Box that I'm working on, it uses ES Vite and Node modules, so I'm using npm to manage the packages.
However, if I sync a new repo down which doesn't include node_modules (which is normal), I obviously need to install related packages.
I ran npm install on such a repo this morning, situation in Box Drive. It started downloading, Box Drive kicked in and started analysing the files and uploading them, and all of a sudden, NPM slowed to a crawl. It took 3 hours to install 300 packages - I'm on a high spec PC with 800Mbps fibre internet - then I gave up.
I've since moved the github repo onto a local folder and ran the npm install again. All 1435 packages were installed in less then 2 minutes.
If I could have paused syncing, I could have installed into a box folder where it's all backed up, then simply resumed syncing once done. Instead I wasted hours and the eventual solution was not to use Box.

This feature really is essential. I've always used Box Sync before, because I have large project files that have to be stored offline, and need them on a drive that isn't my C: drive. Until the latest version of Box Drive, this wasn't possible, so I've moved to Box Drive.
However, I'm finding that when Box Drive is uploading or downloading ANYTHING, it hogs drive usage until complete, to the point where anything file related freezes up. I'm on a high spec PC running Windows 11, 32GB DDR4 RAM, Core i9-10900K CPU @3.7GHz. I can edit 4K footage and run resource intensive 3D renders, but Box Drive is still managing to break my PC. File Explorer freezes, File picker won't open, Adobe can't open projects... the list goes on.
I can't sign out or exit Box Drive because then I won't be able to access the files I'm working on. So I just want to pause the sync, so I can work on my projects again. Before I go home tonight, I can start the sync again and leave it syncing overnight.

I probably need to quit BOX because of missing the feature to pause my synchronisation.

+1 to this feature request. Most BOX competitors have this easily accessible as a pause/resume feature to help manage network traffic. This feels like a key function that's missing.

With BoxSync EOL on apple silicon, this is a major issue for laptops on metered connections. Office staff is constantly updating files I need offline access to and some of these files are 500MB to 1GB....EACH. To expect this to be managed over a phone hotspot is a major push for our business to move to Sharepoint.

The lack of this feature is an absurd and inexplicable step backward from Box Sync. Without it, it's doubtful that I'll be able to continue using Box Drive at all.

How is this NOT planned? I couldn't believe when I downloaded the Box Drive that it can't do what its main competitor Dropbox allows, which is to cancel or pause sync. Put it on the roadmap!

Please Akshay Ravi, add this priority feature to the roadmap plan.
"Allow manual pause or resume of Downloads & Uploads & Allow Admins to set if the organization individual users are allowed to pause/resume Down/Uploads."

Box has clearly said that they have no interest in allowing manual sync and would rather users spend more money to upgrade their equipment and internet connection to avoid issues on other software due to syncing large amount of syncing.
What Box should do: Allow manual pause or resume of Downloads & Uploads & Allow Admins to set if the organization individual users are allowed to pause/resume Down/Uploads. Pausing syncing should be allowed but the app should keep track of changes with timestamps so changes in file names can accurately be reintegrated to the main.
For users that really require this I have found a solution. Dropbox. They have Migration tools available and there are plenty of 3rd Party tools to safely migrate your data and users.

Please add this functionality, seems ridiculous this is not available already. This is critical.

For those who need a solution before Box gets their act together on this very simple feature, you can use a bandwidth limiting program like NetBalancer or NetLimiter and just limit Box bandwidth when you need to

I agree, this is crazy that this is not even on the roadmap. Literally every other cloud storage service has this ability, and it is necessary.
I'm currently syncing a terabyte of data (not uncommon). Meanwhile, my computer is useless for other tasks. I'd like to pause the sync while I'm working, and then start it again overnight. -

How is this NOT planned - this is ridiculous Box devs; perhaps you don't understand how important this is for people's workflows. I work in Broadcasting and need my bandwidth often for live streaming, therefore I need to pause my uploading. Currently, the ONLY way to stop uploading is to quite Box Drive. This seems ridiculous.

I can't believe this isn't an option, nor is it planned. I sync TONS of video files and sometimes I'm at work where the network is slower and it completely bogs down my system. I want to pause sync so that I can resume when I get home to my much faster connection. One reason why I will continue only using Box for work, and Dropbox for personal.

This is a need. When working on data processing in GIS programs, like ArcGIS Pro, these programs create many intermediate files that Box tries to sync. This slows down the process considerably when compared to non synced folders. Copying data back and forth between folders to avoid this is not a solution. Please add this now.

It is not a suggestion, it is a need. Please implement pausing for Box Drive.
