Group-based metadata permissions
Allow for group permissions to be placed on metadata templates so that only those part of that group can add and edit the metadata template on content e.g. only the marketing group can use the marketing campaign taxonomy

Better visibility for file metadata
We would like for metadata to be more visible next to the file on the preview screen instead of having to go to the metadata section and clicking on view.
If metadata could be more easily accessible on the file, as well as when you copy/move the file within Box, it would be helpful if it went with the file too.

Provide a single API method to upload a file and apply metadata as an atomic operation
Unified Upload API (File and Metadata) - Having a single API call to upload a file (or file(s)) with associated metadata would provide large improvements in error avoidance and development logic. Currently, this process must be completed with multiple API calls, which leaves space for errors and sullies the user experience.

Save the default view for STL files on upload
We would like the ability to save the default view for STL files to save the orientation, render mode, and camera projection within the web preview
We used to be able to save the default view for STL files within a Box3d Metadata of the file. We no longer have that ability.

Use autocomplete to select metadata templates
I have a metadata field that contains a choice list that is 35 items long. Rather than scrolling down to select one, I want to type the first letter and have it jump down the list to the first item with that letter as the first letter.
Before your most recent upgrade of the metadata functionality, I could type a letter or two into a select field and the field would auto complete with the choice in the drop down that most matches it. Now I can no longer type into the drop down list field. This really reduces usability…

Metadata Driven Retention Policy based on 1 attribute, not templates

The ability to drive unconstrained repeating metadata
Essentially, this is allowing the ability to add metadata not necessarily from a drop down list.

Add a ready to use expiration date metadata (as for classification) so that this value can be leverage to trigger alert or business logic.
Sample of business scenarios where users need to be aware of expired documents:
- contract management
- equipment certification in real estate1 vote -
Present metadata more prominent when selecting a file from a folder file list
Metadata will be shown for a selected file in the lowest level of the Details area. Practically no user knows that metadata exists for that file. So metadata should be presented more prominent, or get an extra area.

Japanese Metadata values are not fully indexed
You have to fully match the values in order to search for the file. This affects files indexed by Box Skills unsearchable

Compulsory sub-metadata once a specific metadata attribute has been chosen.
We want to expose a sub-set of metadata based on the initial choice of attribute. For example, if you were to pick the attribute "size" it might then offer you a subselection of size variants.

Metadata field for a user name - ability to @mention or tie a metadata field to a specific user
Similar to comments or tasks, it would be helpful to be able to autofill and insert a user's name in a metadata field.
There are a lot of use cases here, e.g. establishing the content owner since oftentimes that is different from the folder owner and not easily discernible or searchable.
Current workaround would be to use the text metadata field, which leaves room for user error, typos, or using different variations on people's names. A dropdown list helps with that but isn't a feasible option if you're choosing from a large set of users.

Although we do not plan to introduce this feature in the near term, we will keep this in consideration for future enhancements.
