Ability to preserve metadata when overwriting a file
In order to overwrite a file, if you download it and then upload it again, metadata and other information that is set only for the file will be lost.
Please make it possible to overwrite files with metadata and other information only on Box, without downloading.
Or, please add the ability to copy metadata only. This would allow for more seamless sharing of data handled by different companies and departments.

Move order of Metadata Template Fields
When editing an existing Metadata template, I would like to be able to move or shuffle the order of the fields.
I created an applicant metadata template and need to add in a dropdown for field for "Education Major." Currently the Education fields are towards the top of the template. I would like to be able to insert a field or move the fields to maintain grouping without having to rebuild the whole template.

Ability to assign specific metadata to a corresponding upload file zone when multiple exist on a page
As an internal user, I want to create a file request template that has multiple file upload zones where each file upload zone has unique metadata associated with the upload zone.
This enhancement would significantly improve the customer experience by utilizing a single URL instead of multiple. This enhancement would also streamline internal processes for staff by eliminating the need for staff to manually sort uploaded files.
In the current state, we are forced to create 3 separate file requests so that we can achieve the desired internal efficiencies.

Metadata on Bookmarks
We heavily use Bookmarks for things that do not live within Box. We would like to have metadata applied to bookmarks for further search functionality.

Permissions - Create a Permission Where Only Admins can Define / Change Metadata Values
Restrict the ability to modify metadata values to a privileged user (likely co-admin)

The ability to drive unconstrained repeating metadata
Essentially, this is allowing the ability to add metadata not necessarily from a drop down list.

Metadata “number” format supports comma “,”.
In order to comply with the Electronic Bookkeeping Act, amounts are entered in "number" format in the metadata. In this case, we would like to enter a comma "," as a separator to prevent errors in the number of digits. Currently, the "Number" format only allows numbers to be entered. If we select "Text" as the format, we can enter a comma ",". However, there is a risk of unintentional full-width input being mixed in, so it is preferable to select "Number" as the format and be able to enter a comma ",". (1000 separator)
2 votes -
Ability to set metadata editing permissions
Currently, metadata can be edited using anything other than the viewer or previewer.
I would like to see a feature added that allows only administrator privileges to edit metadata, while other privileges can only view metadata (but cannot edit it).

Increase Metadata query scale limits
Increase the character, results, and other scale limits for metadata and metadata query search APIs. The documentation indicates additional volumes of data and is inconsistent. In order to provide solutions similar to legacy ECM, metadata query should be able to return additional results sets.

Regarding the display format of metadata reports
Is it not possible to set the output format arbitrarily when generating reports from metadata, rather than being limited to JSON format?
I would also like to have commas inserted into numeric fields of metadata to format them with thousands separators.(in Japanese)
【メタデータレポートの表示形式について】メタデータでレポートを出力した際に、JSON形式ではなく表示形式を任意に設定できないのか。

Option to overwrite metadata values when moving file
We would like the option for a metadata attribute to be overwritten automatically when moved to a folder with cascading metadata enabled for the same metadata template.
Here's our use case:
Some of our organization content currently sits in user folders. People accessing that content have no way of knowing where it sits, and therefore can't take action to move it to the desired location. Applying a metadata template indicating if content sits within a user or an organizational folder would be a great way to make this visible to users. With the current behavior, we can't do that, as…2 votes -
Request to improve metadata_query limitation
Metadata queries Limitations
https://developer.box.com/guides/metadata/queries/limitations/When sending a metadata query request for which the result set exceeds 2,000 items, the API can only guarantee that it returns all all matching results if both the following conditions are met.
1.The requesting user has at least Previewer permission to all items in the result set
2.The ancestor folder contains all of the files in the result setWith the above limitation, it is not possible to narrow down the search to metadata for a specific folder when the range of metadata assigned is wide.
Could it be improved so that the number of…2 votes -
Apply Classification labels on multiple items
It's not currently possible to select multiple files or folders and classify them all at once. We have to click the More Options button on each item to apply the labels one-by-one. I need to apply classifications to about 40-50 existing folders so I'll have to do them individually. Please consider allowing us to click the checkboxes next to multiple items and then show the classify option under More Options, or add a button alongside there next to the Move/Copy, Collections, Trash buttons, etc.
Update: I discovered that you can use a Box Relay workflow using a Manual Start trigger…

We need a way to make selected attributes required custom templates, so that when the templates are applied to Folders/Files the user can not save the metadata form bypassing the required metadata.

Metadata: enable functionality where users must provide a reason for changing a metadata value on highly protected content
Metadata: enable functionality where users must provide a reason (e.g. a comment) for changing a metadata value on highly protected content.
Possibly, we offer the option to configure Box Shield Classification Tags for this. E.g. The tag could say "metadata changes require justification."
