Enhance Metadata Search for Text field for Japanese language ("contains" instead of "exact match")
Currently, texts in Metadata can only be searched by exact match especially for Japanese characters. We would like to see an improvement to make it "contains" search as it is available in the standard search.
90 votesWe are planning improvements to how we handle Japanese language queries but this work is not currently on the roadmap in the next 12 months. We will take this into consideration for the annual roadmap for next year.

Sort search results alphabetically
AS A Box User
I WANT to be able to sort search results alphabetically (currently relevance and updated are the only sort options)
SO THAT I have more options for sorting search results to locate the files and folders I am looking for83 votes -
Default Search Everywhere
While I understand the need to search only in a folder, my company uses the search everywhere function way more.
Is there a way to make the search "everywhere" option the default instead of search "only in this folder"? It slows us down so much right now having to switch it to find a different folder without going back to the home page, or switching the search feature.

Content owners to be searchable even if they own more than 1 million items
Currently, Box's search function becomes unstable when the owner of the content you want to check owns more than 1 million pieces of content,
making it impossible to hit the file correctly. It takes a huge amount of time to check the number of contents of the owner of the content to be confirmed each time in order to perform a file search correctly,
which affects business operations. Please improve the search function so that it can be used correctly even if the content you want to check has more than 1 million owners(日本語)
40 votes -
Advanced Box search capabilities: Being able to search by Creator, Co-owner or Editor
We believe that there are some key data elements that should be filters in the search (and are collected by Box so they should be searchable) and hope to see them in the future. The main one is the "creator" since the "owner" is the only filter that allows you to determine who created the content. Since our Box instance is configured in a way where BoxAdmin owns all of our content, BoxAdmin is also the "owner" of everything. This makes search useless when someone is looking for content that they created.

New Search Filter - 'Last Updated By'
Currently, Box users can't search by a criteria of the user who updated some document most recently. There's a search filter for 'owner', but not 'last updated/modified by'.
REQUEST: Add a 'last updated/modified by' filter to the quick search and full search results filter options.

Currently, multiple tags return items that include any of tags in the search

Export search results data (as CSV or Excel) and/or files
There may be times when you just want to see a list of the hits without looking at the actual files, or download the files themselves without the details

Search by Created Date and Modified Date
When uploading a file by FTP, the Created Date and Modified Date on Details tab shows timestamp from the local PC.
Box's search function only allows to search by Updated Date that is not the date from Modified Date from Details tab of a file, so please add the finction to search by Created Date and Modified Date for FTP uploaders.Possibly, 120 users could be affected by this function change because most of important files are in their local PCs, and it would be really helpful if they could search them by the dates that on their local PCs.

FIX the SEARCH to search exact terms and support advanced search parameters
There are several major issues here, search should be powerful in order to make the tool as useful as possible. It is to the point now that we are storing so much information on Box that not having a search tool that actually works is causing us serious headache and loss of productivity.
Search returns results for all forms of a word, how is it helpful to be absolutely unable to narrow a search. For example, if I search for "Government" (yes, even when using quotes) I get results including government, governance, govern, etc. Thanks Box, you have now included…

Enhance user experience for searching files with tag
As legal department, we manage contract documents using tag but when we search files filtering with them, user experience is not intuitive when I follow steps described below.
- search a keyword filtering with tag
- change the keyword on search box
- filter for tag set in 1 is reset and disappeared
Also, we would like to search file filtering with tag without any keywords in the search box as populating keyword is currently a must to start to search unlike Metadata, which is also inconvenient.

Suffix Match on titles (a form of Wildcard Search)
We need this feature for legal eDiscovery purposes.
We were doing some file name search testing, and we found some odd results based on our filename searches.
If the filename was alphaomega and we tried searching for omega the search does not pull up any results, but searching alpha does pull up the alphaomega files.
20 votesThank you for the feedback. We have noted this feature request and understand the value of this feature. Unfortunately, it is not on the current roadmap.

Ability to save search filter conditions
I would appreciate if the previous settings for contents filters could be saved so that I can call and use it when searching items with similar criteria.
Frequently using the same condition to search files, so I think it could improve the work efficiency to use saved filter settings.19 votes -
Lock Sorting Settings of Files & Folders independently
We would like to be able to lock the sorting settings of files in folders? If we sort the folders based on A-Z the files inside the folders swap to Z-A. We would want them to be fully independent from each other.

Search - Add Microsoft Visio Files (.vsd, .vsdx, etc.) to the 'Full Text Search' Index
Box already has in-file search ('full text search') on other Office file types (Word Docs, PowerPoint files, and Excel spreadsheets), so users expect that Visio files (which are part of the Office suite) would also be indexed by Box.
REQUEST: Include contents of Visio files (.vsd, .vsdx, etc.) in Box's search index.
Context - here's the externally-documented list of file types supported by Box's in-file ('full text search') feature: https://community.box.com/t5/Managing-Your-Content/Search-Overview-and-FAQs/ta-p/354#search_hdsiw
17 votesThanks for the feedback! We have and added this to our backlog. Due to low customer demand for these types, they are currently not prioritized on the roadmap.

Hi, thank you for the feedback on how to improve Box. Unfortunately, OCR for images to capture data from images is not on our roadmap at at this time. However OCR for scanned PDFs is on our roadmap.
