  1. Add Linux installer packages for Box CLI

Testing out the Box CLI and request official Linux support for Ubuntu or RHEL. Would like an easy install via apt-get or Yum.

  2. Instructions for installing cli on Linux

Why don't you at least include some guidance on https://developer.box.com/docs/box-cli regarding where to start if you are using Linux? I have been unable to effectively use my box account since the webdav support ended, and every so often take another stab at it. It would be nice if this page at least pointed to the best resources for installing on Linux, rather than just giving a link to the download pages.

We are in the process of gathering feedback on usage of the Box CLI. If you would like to share how you intend to to use it, please feel free to do so in the comments. Once we’ve reached on a decision we’ll make sure to update this request.

  3. Make API rate limits more sophisticated, especially for large enterprises

When working with a Box Enterprise that has tens of thousands of users, scripts designed to do things like user information syncing, group syncing, or user provisioning/deprovisioning often run into real issues with the Box API rate limits.

Some calls (e.g. downloading or uploading a file) are clearly significantly more resource-intensive than others (e.g. getting a user’s aliases). The method Google has implemented for the Gmail API (see https://developers.google.com/gmail/api/v1/reference/quota) seems like a really great way to balance the need to protect the back-end systems against the need for increased performance for less-intensive calls. It would be nice if Box…

Thanks for your patience and feedback, Ian.

I am curious to hear if we were to implement something like what Google has, which endpoints would you expect to see higher rate limits around?

Also, would you mind sharing some more details around the frequency of the API calls your processes are making right now, and any approximations around what rate limits would suffice for you?

    Thank you!

  4. Display service account login in JWT app configuration console.

    Request:
It would be really helpful if the service account login were displayed on the JWT app configuration page. This would make it easy to identify the login without having to run a separate script and would lower the barrier to entry for developing unprivileged BOX JWT apps.

    Background:
We are making heavy use of service accounts to promote development server/automation-friendly Box apps. Our development model, outlined here (https://github.com/box-community/sample-jwt-app-primer) involves inviting low-privilege service accounts to collaborate on folders. This enables programatic access to Box files on a selective basis.

A major pain point is identifying the login associated…

  5. File-level Collaboration Webhook

I'd like to create a file-level webhook so that I can take action when a file's collaboration(s) have changed, but unfortunately there is currently no webhook trigger for collaborations on a file. Please add support for COLLABORATION.* webhook triggers on file objects.

Thanks for the suggestion! We don’t currently plan to add a Webhook event for file-level collaboration events, but if anything changes we will update this suggestion. If you have specific use cases to share, please add them as comments to this suggestion.

  6. Unmanageable API Key Whitelists

Enterprises with a lot of active software development groups have unmanageable API Key whitelists. This manifests in a lot of ways.

There is no way to limit API Keys to development (limit liability). Typical dev-qa-prod cycle requires 3 API keys. No way to associate API Keys to specific projects. There is no way to tell if old API Keys are still in use.

We have addressed whitelist management for JWT apps and OAuth app support is coming soon.

Separately, we plan to support the dev / prod / QA process with Sandboxes in a much better way. More details soon.

  7. Box UI Element Open With - Not Supported

    Issue:
Box UI Element Open With Capability is not supported

    Customer Story:
As a customer, I'd like my application users to be able to launch and edit with O365 online directly online.

    Summary:
Currently many customers would like to allow application users to edit MSFT and Google documents within their custom application.

  8. excel online previewer for Box Platform

We want to user the Excel online previewer for Box Platform as well.
We are able to open excel files with Excel online previewer when we access from Box.com.
However when we open the file from platform, we cannot.

  9. Allow Enterprise Event API Endpoint to access 7yrs worth of data to match the activity reports provided by the web app

Enterprise Events API endpoint only allows retrieval of events up to one year back. Activity reports in Box go back 7 yrs. Events contain a lot more useful data than activity reports so the request is to match the retention period between the two so the same amount of data can be collected via the API or web application.

  10. Ability to pull API calls report from Admin Console rather than relying on CSM to get information

The ability to pull reports showing how many calls they are making on a certain period.

  12. Allow multi-select of files to download from Content Explorer UI element

Our use case is using Content Explorer to allow users to interact with content in Box. If a user wants to download multiple files via Content Explorer, they either have to download one-by-one, or launch the Content Picker UI element and identify their files again. If Content Explorer supported either multi-select or a checkbox multiple select, users could then download their files with one click.

Specific business process: when working with insurance claims, adjusters regularly need to find and download several images to share with another insurance company to process the claim. Out of 100+ images in the claims folder,…

  13. box-ui-elements content-explorer needs real thumbnails

The Content Explorer element needs at least the option to use actual
file thumbnails rather than the generic ones based on file type
currently shown. Otherwise browsing large collections of images and
videos is very cumbersome to the point of not even being worthwhile. The
API appears to have a thumbnail/representation endpoint so using it from
    content-explorer seems like a no-brainer.

  14. Bulk API support

It would be great if we have a bulk API option. I would like to pass in the list of entity ids(could be files, folders users etc) and get back the results. This will reduce the number of api calls we do to get all the information.

We try to manage client's storage accounts and the main problem is with rate limiting for a large clients.

Implementation can vary, either limit the response size or provide an ack id and developers can poll for the id and get the data back once the api is ready to spit out the…

Thank you for the suggestion. This is an interesting idea but not one we currently have on the roadmap. In the mean time, you can apply techniques such as caching (i.e. fetch what you need once for a session and keep it in local storage) to reduce round-trips, and the use the ?fields query string parameter to request only the minimal set of fields you need, which can reduce API response times.

  15. Custom notifications using Box API

Using Box API there is no way to create custom user notifications. It might be helpful to send some information to the customer that some documents have been moved, imported, etc. A user can monitor the folder but this would be a valuable extension for the API for platform developers.

Thanks, this is a great suggestion but not one that is currently on our roadmap. In the mean time, you can consider using Webhooks to get relevant events and make use of a simple transactional email/sms API such as those provided by Twilio/Sendgrid or Amazon SES to send notifications based on those events.

  16. Add a Webhooks v2 event trigger for restoring a file version

If a file version is restored (via the webapp or API), there is no associated event trigger that captures this action. If an admin is monitoring a file for changes, no webhook is triggered for this action.

    not planned  ·  crajan responded

This is not currently planned. We will consider it with additional use cases and customer demand.

  17. Disclose Box service host names via API

Open up Box host names via API so that a customer's proxy server can automatically fetch our end points and digest it in to their solution. There is a partial list available on our community page but it is not complete and difficult to fetch programatically.

Thank you once again for the feedback. We have evaluated the feedback but don’t think will have anything meaningful to share in the next couple of quarters.

Meanwhile, we will continue to keep our ear to the ground for additional feedback, and let you know if anything changes on our side.

  18. A way to be able to select the rights of the developer console, which is similar to allow users to use Box Relay.

A way to be able to select the rights of the developer console, which is similar to allow users to use Box Relay.
This is a way to prevent users not to make sand boxes and API.

  19. Cleanup and Enhance the file/folder webhook events to cover all the happy paths (new file, new file version, restore previous version)

As a Box Application Developer I want to be able to receive a unique, webhook events for the following scenarios:

    1. User uploads new file (brand new binary object placed into a Box Folder) - Folder based event (exists: FILE.UPLOADED)

    2. User uploads a new file version - File AND Folder based event (e.g. FILE_NEW.VERSION)

    3. User restores a previous file version - File AND Folder based event (e.g. FILE_RESTORE.VERSION)

As the owner of an enterprise application that has deep integration in the BOX platform, it is surprising that I have no way to use the Webhooks to monitor files for new versions…

  20. API endpoint for status.box.com

Create an API endpoint that returns information from status.box.com, so that customers can access this information programmatically.
