We have a customer that is threatening to go to Egnyte as as they've used Egnyte in the past and the customer know's that this is a very basic feature. We hope you'll get this feature soon.

Agree - it is the single biggest item preventing us from seriously considering a move away from a NAS and toward a local laptop/PC centric environment using the cloud as a direct server for 80% of work (typical MS Office apps like word and spreadsheets). Some apps requiring NAS-based license servers and particular partial file locking (like Revit) won't ever move to Box i think, but a large part of our workflow could. File locking is a must-have for that to happen.

This is particularly helpful when collaborating on files. Without this option, I feel like Box is lacking a critical function to be a true collaboration tool, especially since this problem has occurred for multiple users at my organization.

This is an absolute must have. It shouldn't take three years and counting.

Many users face this problem when migrating to Box. If this feature is realized, I will recommend it to other users of Box.

This is a basic necessity for shared files. Why is this still under consideration? Should be a priority!

Desperately need some sort of warning or pop-up to happen when someone tries to open a locked box file. It creates havoc when multiple people open that file and make changes and then it has to be reconciled. Should be a priority to fix.

This is a must have for businesses of any size. Most users are not smart enough to lock files prior to editing. And, I don't blame them because with other file storage solutions, they don't have to.

It must also be possible for the file to be read-only for anyone else who wants to open it with a message "document being modified by...".

This would allow us to seamlessly move from on-prem Windows file server, to entirely using Box for all files. Without it, our users struggle with versioning and workflow on collaborative documents.

Please don't just consider it, implement it. Wonder why this wasn't just part of the initial implementation. It is a basic tool that shared drives must have.

I feel like this is basic shared drive functionality. I hope this gets developed soon, as i would consider it a full fledged shared drive replacement with that functionality.

Wow... This great, logical idea, was recommended almost 3 full years ago and only now is "Under consideration?"
Looking forward to hoping this feature goes from "Under Consideration" to "Planning to Release" soon. With BOX's promotion of its collaboration capabilities, I would have thought this came with the product. -

It's just nuts this has not been implemented yet. If we would have known..

This is a huge pain point for our finance department. They are working with huge collaborative excel files. If they forget to manually lock a file even once, they end up with multiple versions that they have to spend significant amounts of time reconciling. This is absolutely the top feature that's preventing our broader organization from transitioning to Box Drive. We've essentially put our Box rollout on hold because of this feature gap.
