Search on metadata multi-select fields
For example, if a customer tags a file with the "Department" key and the values: "Finance" and "HR." "Department" does not appear in the Box UI search bar as a metadata filter option b/c it is multi-select.

We have released the ability to search over Metadata multi select fields on the web. Here is a link to the community post: https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/360057067553-Search-Metadata-multi-select-fields. You can also search over such fields using the API: https://developer.box.com/reference/get-search/#param-mdfilters.
Documents uploaded/updated with MD multi select fields from this point going forward will be searchable via that field. Previously uploaded documents with MD multi-select fields will soon be searchable via those fields (backfill is in progress).

What is the status of this? This idea has been on the roadmap for years!

The webapp does not support searching on multiselect metadata fields. This really limits the usefulness of multiselect metadata fields

I was tasked to create a strategy to help with the management of sales materials to help streamline the creation of proposals. The implementation of the strategy hinged heavily on the ability to search against multi-select metadata fields. Sadly, I did not realize this wasn't available when thinking through the solution. Being able to, would allow for a multi-pronged approach to the organization of documents. Seems like a solution that would applicable across most organizations.

I just saw that the recently released May 2020 Box "File Request" feature supports multi-select metadata template fields in the forms. I really hope that helps drive more attention/business case for Box to accelerate building the capability for users to search within those very same field types.

Hi Box Team, I really hope we're going to see this at some point in the Box Product Updates feed. I personally don't even care if it isn't the cleanest UI to start off with. I'd just be happy with the functionality :-D

This is integral to my company wanting to expand the way we use Box. I mirror many others’ feedback; if we can easily add multi-select attributes to an item, we should be able to similarly search this information too. Not having this capability, severely limits my business case for using Box. I really hope it’s integrated into the upcoming Modern UI experience.

This is a high-priority request for our implementation. There is a lot of multi select with metadata, which makes it is hard for users to use search.

Frankly, the lack of this functionality compromises the ability to use this product more powerfully. It can collapse long unwieldly lists into more compact cognitive "buckets", maximize visual screen space and aid in search usability.

I would like to use Metadata templates for my plastic surgery practice. Multi-select drop down selections are practical for attributes like 'diagnosis' or 'surgical procedure' or 'comorbidities'. However, these multi-select drop downs are not currently searchable with greatly limits their utility for quality improvement projectes etc. For example, I may want to identify and view all patients with a specific combination of diagnoses and procedures. thank you

I agree that the ability to search on multi-select meta data is critically important to maximizing the functionality.

As with the other commenters below--the ability to search on multi-select metadata from the 'Advanced Search' window is critical to the usability of these templates for our users.

This feature is critical to making Box metadata actually usable. Why have the ability to assign metadata if you can't actually search it...

Allow a metadata-based search to
- pass multiple enum (drop down) options
- support exact-match in metadata text fields -

For example, for a 'Departments' key, allow 'Finance' AND 'HR' to be added as values (as a checklist, for example). We'd also need to be able to search for these multi-value entries as well.
Components:
1. Allow Single or Multi-Value when adding a Dropdown Key when creating a Metadata Template
2. When applying a Metadata Template to a file, allow the user to enter a single or multi-value for the relevant Dropdown keys
3. Allow the user to perform single or multi-select searches when using the Metadata search filter
