Ability to CC a non-signer on a sign request, or to change the sender email
Ability to CC a non-signer on a sign request. Sometimes the client doesn't recognize the admin person sending the sign request and refuses to sign. It would help to be able to CC their sales rep so the request looks more legitimate.
Alternatively, I'd like the ability to change who the Box Sign email comes from, so the email notification requesting signature can appear to come from the client's sales rep instead of the admin setting up the signature.

Inactive Status - Should have visual indicator that shows the account is inactive when user is still a collaborator on folder/file
When I change a user to inactive in the admin console, The user is still a collaborator on a folder or file. There is no way for the active folder collaborators to know if people are active or inactive. The inactive user should either appear greyed out in the list of users or have an red x or something to indicate this user is no longer active. You would become aware if you try to send a comment or at mention to the inactive user it will not pop up but that still doesnt emphasis that person is no longer here, you may think its an issue with Box. Not all companies want to delete their users. So when we make them inactive and we dont have a solution to remove them from the folders they have access to, it would be good if there was some sort of visual indicator and this might make the owner or co-owner manual remove them then. Thank you

Add account info to Box application window
One of our users recently asked the following:
"In the Box drive alert window, the Box Drive Settings gear icon doesn't
do anything useful. Please add an actual settings window with basic
information like file space used, buttons for pause/restart syncing, etc.The Box Drive window is an alert style window that disappears anytime a
mouse is clicked or any other window is interacted with. This is the
case in Windows 7 through Windows 11. It would be better if Box Drive
had an actual application window like most other apps."I know that manual syncing isn't possible yet in Drive, but I wasn't sure if this was a good place to mention the other questions this user raised.

Ability to track # of favorites to a file or folder
While access to the # of previews, edits, and downloads is great, it would be super awesome to be able to access the # of favorites a file or folder has received. This would give the opportunity to show deeper engagement of a file or folder.

Prompt for Metadata in Workflow
It would be good to allow users to be prompted for the metadata values when the workflow triggers, instead of requiring the user to prefill them in the workflow template. A simple pop-up box with the field name and value input would suffice. Much like the existing prompt in the workflow, but automatically displayed based on the trigger.

Adding more functionality of Box Drive enhancements into the Admin Console
My customer has deployed Box Drive out to most of their employees and it has been widely adopted across their organization. What they are now having trouble with is that there are security concerns when it comes to their employees having personal Drive accounts so they want to the functionality built in to Admin Console to force log out their users in Box Drive - as of right now many of the Admin functionality relate to Box Sync and Admins do not have the option to make changes on the Box Drive functionality

WebApp UI - Ability to collapse left sidebar
New Box layout New Box layout takes up space, reduces visibility and ability to recognize folders/files
Perhaps I am missing something. With the new Box web application, there is now a wide, persistent orange menu in a left sidebar. That menu does not appear to be something that I can hide. I use Box on a laptop with limited screen real estate, and the new sidebar eats up a lot of the space previously available to show data. As a result, my list of folders and documents is squeezed into a smaller space, and I see a much smaller set of characters in the names of folders and documents. I don't know what I'm looking at half the time, so I spend considerably more time searching, opening, backing out and starting over again from the top to find a folder. It would be strongly preferable to collapse that left sidebar for greater visibility.

Auto lock/unlock for read-only file.
Currently, BoxDrive works with AutoLockUnlock=1 as below.
- When we open a read-only settings(Windows OS file property), it is locked automatically.
- And then, when we close the file, the read-only setting is gone.
Please improve as below.
- When we open a read-only settings(Windows OS file property), it is not locked automatically.
- And then, when we close the file, the read-only setting keeps.

Users who have permission to output reports should be able to select "target folders and files" within the scope of their access rights
Under the current specification, only administrators or authorized co-administrators can select the "target folders and files" when outputting the User Activity Report.
For the sake of business efficiency, I would like to see users who have permission to output reports be able to select "target folders and files" within the scope of their access rights.
11 votes -

Global Metadata Variable
Provide functionality for metadata variables to be referenced globally within other metadata templates.
For example, company regions change annually. If we need to add a new region (South) to our current regions (Central, East, West), we have to update each individual template with a region field. It would be ideal if we could update the regions in one global variable that can then be referenced in all metadata templates. This process today is time consuming, decentralized, and error prone.

Improve the use of Variable Strings in the JAVA SDK
For customers who are leveraging an API gateway using Java SDK version 3.2.1 some URL prefix text strings are not dynamically adjusted.
For example, when customers are downloading the file representation in it tries to call directly the box API URL like the following URL:
https://api.box.com/2.0/internal_files/123/versions/345/representations/
Some customers may be leveraging a customer specific gateway, so they need to be able to dynamically change the URL where https://api.box.com/ is replaced with the gateway prefix like all the other calls:
{{CUSTOMERGATEWAY}} /internalfiles/123/versions/345/representations/jpgthumb32x32
There are a number of places where the prefix was not dynamic.

Update the layout of My Collection
Under My Collections, please change the layout of the toggle button that pops open Collections folders so that it's not the exact same size/shape/location/color as the "X" boxes on individual favorites. More than once, when a page loads slowly, I've gone to expand a Collection and accidentally hit an "X" and wiped out an important favorite from my sidebar!

Default Shared link should be settable at the Folder level for all new links
Request the ability to set the default shared link permissions at the folder level for all files/folders in that folder.
Eg. We have a clients folder that we want to be able to share with clients outside of our organization. Many of our designers use the box desktop application and pull shared links by right-clicking and pulling directly from the finder. However, since our entire account's default link sharing permissions is only invitees, that link can't be used for external users without going to the browser and changing the link permissions manually for every file they pull. We want to keep the rest of the account for only invitees so something sensitive isn't accidentally shared outside of the company, but this specific folder is full of files that are supposed to be shared externally.
This would really speed up our process and remove a tedious step.

Augment existing collaborator permissions in inherited subfolders
Scenario:
Folder A is shared with User X with Viewer permission
Folder B is a subfolder of Folder A, on which User X requires Editor permissionAccording to support, the only way to accomplish this in the web UI is to first remove User X as a collaborator on Folder A, add them as an Editor on Folder B, and then re-add them as a Viewer on Folder A
This is clunky, annoying, and results in a lot of extra notifications.
Clearly this is supported by the underlying file system because you can do it directly with the Box CLI:
box collaborations:create <folder ID> folder --role editor --group-id <group ID> --no-notify --as-user <user ID>
This results in the correct assignment. However while trying to do this in the web UI, an inheritance warning prompt appears and will change the collaborators permission at the parent level too, which is not desired.
This seems to be a very common use case and I'm shocked at the app behaving this way. Please fix this! We need to be able to augment inherited permission on subfolders from the web UI.

Finding Priority Documents within a Folder that may have a hundred documents
It would help to be able to mark certain documents with a red checkmark as a Priority or Important document and be able to see only those documents that are Priority or Important or whatever you want to name it. Some of our Folders contain a hundred documents or more and it would be great to just see only the documents that have been marked as Priority if that is what the attorneys choose to see rather than the hundred documents.
