excel
I would like Excel Online to be updated so that it can handle Excel files on Box just like it can handle Excel files on One Drive.

Get Rid of Waterfall Permissions - Allow Subfolder Security To Be Set Differently
It is absolutely ridiculous that a company as large as Box is using waterfall permissions for all enterprise accounts.
In a business environment, it is absolutely necessary to be able to set specific permissions on subfolders within a large data folder that all users have access to. This is a simple feature included with every other cloud file provider we've ever used.
Needs to be included ASAP.
24 votesHi, I am a Product Manager for Box's File System, I am looking for real world examples from your business needs where the waterfall permissions doesnt work. The more elaborate the example is the better it will be. Would you be willing to share?

Add functionality to view all folders set to "Make available offline"
I would love to be able to see which folders are currently set to "make available offline". I need free up space regularly.
Or a feature to see how much space box is taking up on my machine and what folders are using the space. Similar to storage on a Mac.

Ability to turn off listing of files in collaboration invitation emails (for HIPAA)
Currently, if you share a folder with someone, they get an email that lists up to the first ten items in that folder. If the file names have Patient Health Information in them (e.g. if they contain the name of the patient) then this could result in PHI inadvertently being sent via email, in violation of HIPAA security policies. If we could turn this off in our Box instance, so that invited collaborators get an email but not a listing of contents, then there would be no unintended sending of PHI via email.

Version history control per file basis
We would like for Owners and Co-owners of a file to have control over limiting the number of versions that can be created on an individual file. Currently, this is an enterprise wide setting and users do not have the option to override the number of versions. Users are requesting this control because the versions count against their individual storage quota.

user.authentication.verify
I would like to be able to catch the user.authentication.verify event with Event Hooks.
This is because the above allows applications such as Bookmark apps that do not generate user.authentication.sso to capture successful authentication, and it is possible to execute workflows based on them.1 vote -
Disable the collaboration expiration date set for an external user when the external user is changed to a managed user.
External users who have been collaborated with an expiration date often become managed users.
Currently, we need to re-collaborate or add them to a group, so we would like to see the expiration date changed so that the expiration date is invalidated when the user is changed to a managed user.2 votes -
Please automatically close the tab of the browser we used to log in after completing the login process.
The login method from Box Drive has been changed to using a web browser.
Currently, the behavior is that the tab of the web browser used for login authentication remains after login is completed.
The administrator is troubled by the many inquiries from end users asking if closing this tab will cause any problems.Reference:

grant access
I have a parent folder with many multiple subfolders with additional subfolders. Is it possible to grant different levels of access (i.e. lower level such as Viewer access) despite giving Editor access to the parent folder? If that feature could be included, that would be fantastic. Thanks!

hide collaborators from non owners without breaking notes and office online
We would like to hide collaboration from non owners but still be able to use office online and box notes.

When dragging files to your desktop from BOX it should be a default of COPY, instead the default is MOVE. Unfortunately when user MOVES the
After upgrading to Monterey, Box Drive has made a significant change in behavior where dragging a file from Box Drive to the local filesystem moves the file, rather than the previous behavior of copying the file. It will still copy if you're dragging the file to removable media, but not the local Mac drive.
Anyone know of a way to alter this behavior back to the previous?
It causes three fairly significant issues.
One, if someone needs a local copy of a file for travel, offline, whatever, now it's removed from Box and no one else can access it if they had a permission level on the file that allows for its removal. Yes, you can hold Option while dragging to get it to revert to copying, but is everyone in the company going to be trained and remember to do that every time?
Second, if someone forgets to hold Option while dragging even one time, that file has now moved from Box to local and its object ID is lost. When they realize the mistake and put the file back, it will gain a new ID. This means every single system, document, bookmark, etc. that pointed to the previous URL of the object is now broken.
Third, in line with the above, even one simple instance of someone forgetting to drag with Option held down will result in the prior object and its entire version history being trashed. We have a Box Enterprise plan with unlimited version history, and we sometimes need those versions for undoing mistakes that may have occurred a large number of versions prior. Well, those are all gone now, and it means every user mistake will now require a Box admin getting into the trash to find the original object to restore, every single time any employee does this.

When an external user changes his/her email address from the original invitation, the invitation can be removed or put on hold
We happened to be looking at the Collaboration List screen when we noticed that an external user had changed his primary email address.
In addition, the User Activity Report does not log information about external users' primary email address changes. If this is not done, the user in question may not be considered for de-collaboration during the inventory of collaborator privileges that we conduct.
The fact that users who are supposed to be deactivated remain collaborating is a security risk that cannot be overlooked. Please add the ability to immediately cancel or put the collaboration on hold if, after collaborating with a external user, he/she sets an address other than the one we have invited as the primary email address.

Save local copy of Mobile upload when using Capture feature
Some customers in legal and insurance industries utilize the Capture feature in the Box mobile app to upload sensitive content for legal proceedings and insurance claims (i.e. depositions and statements). If an upload fails when leveraging the Capture feature, that file is not saved locally, and it is not possible to re-attempt the upload. This has major ramifications on the customer's business and legal processes, and should be addressed by auto-saving a copy of the Capture file locally, especially in cases where the upload attempt fails

Additional control over Account Lockout
When a user exceeds the failed login amount threshold, it would be very helpful for there to be an account lockout triggered along with the notification email that would not require an admin to manually set the account to inactive.

Controls for Admins to stop over sharing
We have seen multiple scenarios where our teams are over sharing entire folder structures with external parties. It would be good as admins/co-admins to have a setting that allows us to disable external sharing.
I was hoping this could have been done with policies, but since they are hierarchical it would stop the files and folders within the ones we want to lock from being shared!1 vote -
Ability to tag groups
I want a function like Teams' "tag".
Currently, only individuals can mention comments in the data saved in the box,
I would like to be able to mention in groups.
Can't you make better use of groups in your management console?
One of the features of box is that multiple people can edit the same data at the same time, and there are also convenient functions such as comment fields and mention functions.
Please consider further improving usability.Teams
15 votes -
Customization of Main Screen
There should be away that you do not have to view all of the files and folders that you have been to invited to collaborate on when you are in Box. Currently, there is only All Files which shows folders and documents that I can't move, organize, or hide because I don't own them. There should be an option to customize my view to just my files and folders. There could also be an option to view just collaboration files and folders. That way, All Files could remain as it is., but I would not have to see the clutter of all of them when I am trying to operate within Box. The alternative to that would be to allow the user to move, hide, or organize files that they don't own in their own interface without it impacting the interface of other collaborators or the owner of the file or folder.

Allow Admin/Co-Admin to access shared link basic info
When using BoxItem.Info itemInfo = BoxItem.getSharedItem(api, sharedLink); to retrieve basic information about a shared link, Box returns a 404 when the admin/co-admin doesn't have specific permissions. However, it's possible to see the basic information when you view a shared link report. We're essentially trying to get the same information as the shared link report is able to pull for all files/folders. Discussion of the suggestion is here:
