Box falsely claims a file is being edited
I need to rename a file. Box doesn't allow me to. Instead, it falsely claims the file is being edited. I have no open tabs anywhere where I am editing that file. Also, I know with certainty no one else is editing it right now.
The "idea" I have is: Box should behave and let me rename files. Gosh, some other vendors allow you to rename files while you're editing them. Unheard-of, I know. But a feature. Elsewhere.

Request for Dynamic Session Timeout Control Based on SAML SessionNotOnOrAfter
We would like Box to reference the SessionNotOnOrAfter value in the SAML response and allow the session timeout to be set shorter than the tenant’s default value (and, if possible, longer as well).
Our intention is to have the IdP determine the security level based on factors such as device type and user type, and then shorten the session only when the risk is high, while allowing longer sessions when the risk is low, thereby enabling risk-based session management.

SAML SessionNotOnOrAfter
2 votes -

Report on Auto‑Confirmation Issue During Japanese Input When Using Bulleted Lists (BoxCanvas)
I am using BoxCanvas and would like to report an issue related to text input.
After starting a bulleted or numbered list, if I type double‑byte characters and the IME enters the pre‑conversion state, the text is automatically confirmed and I cannot input it correctly(At that time, I was using Japanese input). This behavior has already been resolved in BoxNotes. The pace of improvements to BoxCanvas, BoxNotes, and other features has been remarkable. I appreciate the Box team’s continuous efforts and look forward to future enhancements.

Add preset date ranges such as “Previous Month” when scheduling report generation
When scheduling report generation, it would be very helpful to have an option to select “Previous Month” (from the 1st to the last day of the previous month) as a preset date range.
It would also be useful to have additional preset options such as “Previous Year,” “Specific Month,” or “Specific Year” to easily configure commonly used reporting periods.2 votes -
Improvement of the repeat timing for Box Relay schedule events
When trying to set the repeat timing for a Box Relay schedule event to monthly, currently you can only choose the 1st day or the last day every few months.
The timing of the event's start is not necessarily at the beginning or end of the month, so it is inconvenient to use.
I would like you to add a setting that repeats monthly based on the start date, like the report scheduling feature.-in Japanese-
5 votes -
Add Fixed and Descriptive CSS Tags for Easier Pendo Integration
We use Pendo to automate and manage user guidance within Box. Pendo provides automation features that allow us to automatically trigger specific AI agents, even when many agents exist.
However, with the current Box coding rules, it is often difficult to use Pendo’s feature tagging effectively, because it is hard to uniquely identify elements for tracking or automation.
I would like to request that Box implements a development rule to add fixed and descriptive CSS tags (classes or IDs) to relevant elements related to AI agents. This would make it easier for Pendo users to specify and control these elements, significantly improving integration and automation workflows.

Shield alerting admins when users "download" from Box Drive
A customer is reporting difficulty using Box Shield’s Anomalous Download detection due to how downloads are currently defined when Box Drive is in use. Box Shield flags a “download” whenever a user expands or opens a folder in Box Drive. As a result, routine navigation actions are recorded as downloads, creating noise in the anomaly signals. The customer is asking whether anomalous download detection can be refined to trigger only on intentional file downloads (e.g., explicit download actions), rather than folder expansion or passive access via Box Drive.

Korea zones
I would like to have Korea added as a new Zones country.
There is a law passed that the content needs to be stored in Korea so we will need Korea Zones to use Box in Korea.7 votesThis feature is not planned currently, but this might change based on the customers' feedback, so make sure you vote for it and add comments.

Allow search feature on shared link folders
Allow search feature on shared link folders. Search feature should be everywhere whether they are collaborated folders or guest shared link folders.
Currently they are not available on shared link folders which makes it difficult for users to search for a specific file within a folder. (E.g. 500 image files in a folder and user has to download whole folder to search for a specific image file)

Box Hub Image Previews for External Users
Image previews in a Box Hub are not available unless logged in. We love the Box Hubs internally and would love for them to be as helpful and useful for non-users.

Box Web
Currently, when previewing a file in Box, navigating to another file often requires leaving the preview or opening a new view, which disrupts the user’s workflow. Introducing an in-browser preview experience similar to Outlook’s email preview would represent a significant usability improvement.
Specifically, this enhancement would allow users to:
Open a file in a preview pane within the same browser window.
Seamlessly navigate between files (e.g., next / previous) without closing the preview.
Preserve folder context and file list visibility while reviewing content.
Avoid losing navigation state or opening additional windows or tabs.
Beyond general document review, this functionality would be particularly valuable for email archiving use cases. At present, the lack of smooth navigation when previewing files in Box creates enough friction that many users prefer to remain in Outlook when reviewing and archiving emails and attachments.
A preview-and-navigation model comparable to Outlook’s would make Box a far more viable destination for email archiving, enabling users to review multiple emails or attachments efficiently without breaking their flow. This would encourage greater adoption of Box as a centralized repository, reduce dependency on Outlook for document review, and improve overall productivity.
Thank you for considering this suggestion.

Prefer that it's not automatically set to "comment with time stamp" for video files
When commenting on a video file, the timestamp automatically comes on. It gets in the way. Our team don't use this feature. Can it be set to off? And when we decide to use the time stamp feature, we can toggle it on.
Sometimes we just need to comment back and forth without actually using the time stamp. Thanks!

Box Relay
Box Relay needs to be able to create a work flow for a parent folder and have it work for all child folders. A user is setting up a simple notification (upload, download) and then sends a notification to a set of users with a message. The user currently has to replicate or create a new Relay for each child folder. Very, very silly to have to waist so much time.

Better Reporting Experience, Especially for Clients in Highly Regulated Environments
In general, I think Box Reporting needs to be an area for improvement. There should be more options for reports and more filters and ways to manipulate the reports in Box.
Something specific we would like to see is better reporting around Governance, especially with retention policies. We operate in a highly regulated environment where we needed detailed reporting around this information. There needs to be more granularity with reports, such as the Files and Folders report. We should be able to run a report that shows all root folders or be able to separate out folders and files. I've seen several ideas about being able to parse out subfolders as well.
For us to prove we are in compliance for data retention and destruction, we need a report that shows all content has a retention policy assigned. There's really no easy way to currently do this. I need to run the Folders and Files report for All Folders, but then generates multiple csvs that are just about too big to open. There are also limitations we are seeing with this report, where we know content has a retention policy assigned, the policy has been assigned for months and the content hasn't moved, yet on the report, it's not showing as having any retention.
Bottom line, Box Reporting needs to be better, more accurate, more real-time and just brought up to speed with the current times. And there needs to be more compliance related reports available as well. Thank you for your consideration.

Box Events API Collaboration Events don't show the same details as the user activity report
When a User Activity report is generated, we can show events for 'Change user or group role' and 'Removed collaborator'. As part of these records there are additional details provided showing:
From: ROLE, To: ROLE, Folder ID: 1234
Was: ROLE, Folder ID: 1234When using Box Events via API we also see events for
COLLABORATION_ROLE_CHANGEandCOLLABORATION_REMOVE. These line up to the records in the User Details report however they are missing the details about the previous states of the collaboration. As part of our company policy for managing collaborations, I need to be able to fetch the previous roles of users so we can automatically revert these changes (in specific cases).
I see that the information is being captured, but not passed through to the API for some reason. Generating reports manually each time is not a viable solution, so I'm looking to get these additional details added into the event's additional details dictionary.

I would like you to add a feature that prohibits the creation of free accounts using company-owned domains.
Based on the following circumstances, it is desirable for system administrators to manage accounts, including license management:
① Creating free accounts using a company-owned domain requires time to integrate them with managed users.
② Since SSO is used, even if a free account is created, it cannot actually be used to access Box.
1 vote -
Ability to invite external unmanaged users into Box Apps
We are requesting a new feature that allows external (unmanaged) users to be invited into Box Apps.
Use Case Example:
A law firm wants to share categorized legal documents with their clients through Box. Currently, Box Apps enable internal users to view and manage files with rich metadata, making it easy to organize and automate workflows. However, clients cannot access these metadata views directly. Customers should have the ability to view this structure and even work with it to launch automations and processes, as well as search their documents more easily.11 votes
