Enhanced Locking User Experience / Show 'Would you like to lock?' Pop-Up After Clicking 'Open'
When I go to open a file from the webapp, I want Box to help me be a good collaborator, meaning prompt me with "would you like to lock this file while editing?" before the file actually opens (via Box Edit).
This isn't a request for a different lock/unlock flow with Box Edit -- it's a request for an enhanced experience between when a user clicks the 'open' button in the web app and when Box Edit actually kicks in.
ISSUE: Box's lock/unlock UX is very 'soft' right now, compared to SharePoint's and a traditional Windows file server. As such,…
5 votesLocking file has its own drawbacks about causing files to be inaccessible. We encourage users to use Office Online as a solution to avoid conflicts.

Outlook: Add Ability to Save the Email Itself (the .msg file or a PDF of it), Not Just the Attachment
There are use cases (given Box's retention capabilities) for users to save Outlook emails themselves (.msg files) to Box using Box for Office. The Box for Office integration currently only allows the user to 'Save Attachments to Box', which doesn't save the actual email itself.
SPECIFIC REQUEST: Adjust the 'Save Attachments to Box' button/feature to include an option to save the email itself (as a PDF or the .msg file) to Box along with the attachment.

Automated Email Notifications Based on Metadata Values
Provide the ability to set automated email notifications based on values entered into folder/file metadata.
For example, 'send a reminder email to X people X days prior to the date entered in the 'lease expiration' metadata field on a file.
14 votesDue to competing priorities, we have not planned to work on this feature on our immediate timeline.

Bring back "updates" tab to monitor activity
Using updates tab to see changes in account at a high level.
1 votePlease update with customer requesting the feature.

Add setting in "Group settings" that would allow users to remove themselves from a group
Users could be presented with the option to remove themselves from a group when they try to remove themselves from a folder that they inherit through a group. This should only be available if the group settings allow this behaviour.
It would be beneficial to have a warning message which shares what other folders will have access revoked.
1 voteThis suggestion is not under consideration for the current or future roadmap. We will revisit this feature request as we see more demand from customers.

Search - Add Microsoft Visio Files (.vsd, .vsdx, etc.) to the 'Full Text Search' Index
Box already has in-file search ('full text search') on other Office file types (Word Docs, PowerPoint files, and Excel spreadsheets), so users expect that Visio files (which are part of the Office suite) would also be indexed by Box.
REQUEST: Include contents of Visio files (.vsd, .vsdx, etc.) in Box's search index.
Context - here's the externally-documented list of file types supported by Box's in-file ('full text search') feature: https://community.box.com/t5/Managing-Your-Content/Search-Overview-and-FAQs/ta-p/354#search_hdsiw
18 votesThanks for the feedback! We have and added this to our backlog. Due to low customer demand for these types, they are currently not prioritized on the roadmap.

This is a very niche use case that could help customers, but also negatively impact other customers.
I would like to better understand the root problem before adding complexity to the product.

Assign task to groups
We would like to be able to assign task to specific groups. I.e. asking a whole team to acknowledge that they have seen a specific document.

Renaming and moving files/folders: include old and new names and locations in Enterprise Events call
If renaming or moving a file or folder, Usage Log reports include both the new and old names, and new and old locations. The old location and old name are missing from Enterprise Events via the Content API.
4 votesThank you for this request! We do not plan on prioritizing this at the moment. We’ll continue to monitor demand.

Add Ability to Download And/or Copy from Trash Page
Users are interested in having a functionality added to the Trash where they would be able to either download content directly from the Trash or copy the items they would like to be restored to a new location in their Box account.
This would be most beneficial in the use case when an admin is reviewing a user's profile that is going to be deleted. They would like to be able to review the items in the user's Trash and identify which items may need to be restored and to what location.
4 votesThis is an interesting feature! However, it does not have enough demand or impact in order to be prioritized. We will reconsider with additional demand.

Add folder/file path to usage log reports
Currently, the usage log report only shows the most recent folder that it lives within, and not the entire path.

Support for Macro-enabled Files
Macro-enabled Excel files (xlsm) can be previewed in Box (albeit a little slow to generate preview), but macro-enabled Word files (docm) cannot be previewed.
Neither document type is officially listed as a supported file type (https://community.box.com/t5/Managing-Your-Content/What-file-types-are-supported-by-Box-s-Content-Preview/ta-p/327), so it would be expected that both work the same way (either be previewable or not).

Request to increase item count per folder limit
We would like to be able to add more than 15,000 items per folder. We are working with multi-level folders structures within our environment and anticipate having more than 15,000 items within the first level of their subfolders.
8 votesWe have an internal initiative to scale up this and several other metrics. And we have made significant progress in terms of the number of items that can be stored in a Folder. I am happy to report that our research have shown that our infrastructure can easily scale up to 1 Billion items in a single Folder.
Since this initiative is underway, we are in the process of understanding how such a scale impacts the usability of our first party applications that sits on top of our platform. However, accessing such large number of items on a single folder via our APIs should be straightforward.
Disclaimer: We are not yet committing that such scale limits will be available to all pricing tiers.

Ability to change default collaborator level globally
Customer is requesting the ability to change the default collaborator level upon adding a new collaborator. The default level is now Editor, but the customer wants to set the default to Viewer Uploader or something else to protect against provisioning too much access to users.
Additionally, the customer wants to collaborate with many customers (external users) and would like to provision appropriate access to those users (preferably not Editor).

Open Shared Link Controls: Only [specified roles in the folder] can create open links
REQUEST: The ability for admins to choose which roles (Editor, Viewer Uploader, etc.) are able to create open ('people with the link') links in folder they're in.
Currently, if you are a collaborator with permissions to create/edit a shared link, you can choose any of the 3 shared link permissions levels.
ADMIN STORY: "I want to require that only Co-Owners in folders can create open shared links. Editors and below can create shared links, but they won't be able to chase the permission to 'people with the link."
CONTEXT: Many large enterprises, and even smaller ones with a security focused…
