Support IAL2/AAL2 Identity Providers as a Box Login
Box should partner with identity providers like ID.me and Login.gov, allowing for enterprises to ensure a smooth and secure login process for managed users and external collaborators alike . Users should be able to use these credentials to access Box.
This is especially important to reduce the risk of unverified external collaborators accessing sensitive enterprise content. Ideally, admins can enforce these IdP logins for external collaborators (similarly to how the current 2FA setting for external collaborators works). These two identity providers can require IAL2/AAL2 identity verification and authentication in accordance with NIST 800-63-3 standards.

Date conditional formatting in Box Apps
As a user, I'd like to define conditional formatting for date columns in a Box App so that I can clearly see documents with approaching deadlines and those that are overdue

Option to default new Office files to web editor without disabling Box Edit
Currently, when Box Edit is installed/enabled, newly created Word/Excel files in Box open automatically in the desktop app, interrupting workflows for users who prefer the web editor (like me at SMRU Consulting). Disabling Box Edit fixes this but removes desktop editing entirely, which isn't ideal.
Requested Feature:
Add a setting to default newly created Office files to open in Microsoft 365 for Web, while keeping Box Edit active for existing files or manual "Open in desktop" choices.
Bonus: A prompt on creation ("Open in web / desktop?") for flexibility.
Why It Matters:
Streamlines workflows for web-first users without sacrificing Box Edit.
Prevents unwanted desktop launches, especially with Box Drive installed.
Improves productivity in enterprise setups like ours (multi-TB marine consulting folders).
Workaround Issues:
Disabling Box Edit works but blocks desktop access for Office/non-Office files – not viable for all users. Please add this to the roadmap! Happy to provide more details or test betas.

Move/Copy dialog search no longer shows parent folder path
In the Move/Copy dialog, search results no longer display the parent folder or path context for folders with identical names.
Previously, search results clearly showed both the folder name and its parent location. Now, only the folder name is shown, resulting in duplicate entries that are indistinguishable unless each one is opened.

Document title previews
Hi! After the latest platform update, Box doesn't show document title previews anymore when you hover over the document and it's very inconvenient - could we have this function back?

Add a feature to enable batch descriptions to be added to multiple files on Box at once.
Our organisation is using the file description feature to optimise search and give legacy context and crediting to files on Box.
Descriptions must be added manually to files one at a time. we are uploading hundreds of files at a time, often all with the same description.
A feature that allows multiple files to be selected and assigned the same description at once would be hugely efficient v the current process.

Search sorting - have the possiblity to always list exact matches at the top
The current Box search (especially when moving files) seems to prioritize folders that do not have the searched for string in their title but are seemingly selected based on recency or usage.
Many of our teams move files based on a specific string in their title to a specific folder including said string.
Since those folders are often not touched for a long period of time, the folders do sometimes not show up in search or only all the way down, with seemingly unrelated folders being displayed at the top instead.1 vote -
Increase the heading hierarchy in BoxNotes
Increase the heading hierarchy in BoxNotes
Currently, the heading hierarchy in BoxNotes can only be expanded up to levels 1 to 3.
There are many cases where BoxNotes is created with more than three headings.
It is inconvenient that the formatting cannot be consistent because the number of heading levels cannot be increased, and that the table of contents cannot reflect all headings.
Please allow the table of contents to display headings of the 4th, 5th levels and beyond when viewed.BoxNotes

Forward and Backward Arrows
I don't think its an Idea, but to move through files the > arrow buttons seem to be backwards. The Left < is to move Foward and the Right > is to move backwards. When I think it should be the other way around for those of us who are use to < to be backwards and > to be forward.

Create Doc Gen templates from Excel.
I have had multiple customers and partners ask for the capability to build Doc Gen templates from Excel documents (existing and non-existing). This is a capability that would help advance the adoption of our new offering.

Match between Box AI for Hubs answers and reference information
The reference information displayed in the responses of Box AI for Hubs is sometimes inaccurate, and the links between the response content and the reference information may differ.
Since I went to the trouble of asking a question, if the link to the file is different, I have to search for the file within Hubs, so I want the accuracy improved so that the answer content and the reference link match.-in Japanese-
3 votes -
Shift Click select for multiple files in Box App
In an ordinary folder in Box, you are able to select one document using the 'cube' and hold shift on your keyboard and select another document down the list and it will auto select everything in-between.
This functionality is not present in Box Apps. Adding this functionality would make it quicker and easier to edit metadata and download documents from a subset of an app view as well as unify behavior between Box Apps and the rest of the Box Web App.

Regarding the file display when changing the BoxNotes URL from "note" to "file" BoxNotesのURLを"note"から"file"にした際のファイル表示について
After sharing a Box Note, we want to set the shared URL to "file" instead of "note" to prevent editors from unintentionally modifying the content.
However, the "file" view breaks the layout (the width becomes narrow), so currently, it cannot be used for sharing purposes. We request the ability to either select the display method after changing to "file" or to be able to expand it to full-width display.
Our company uses Box Notes as a medium for sharing TIPS company-wide, but distributing the Box Note URL as "note" results in unintentional edits.
Therefore, we request an improvement to the display state of the read-only function in Box Notes.■An example of changing "note" to "file" in the URL.
Legacy Box Note URL:
https://example.app.box.com/"notes"/00000000000The URL when the URL is changed to "file":

I want to be able to change access permissions when inviting someone to a Box folder via Teams
As per the current Box specifications, when you invite someone to a Box folder via Teams, they will be granted editor permissions and cannot be changed in advance.
After inviting via Teams, it is possible to change the access permissions on the Box side, but it is very inconvenient to have to change the access permissions every time.
By making it possible to set access permissions in advance, unnecessary permissions will not be granted, reducing the risk of incidents occurring.(日本語)
14 votes -
Controlling Public Link Creation and Scope on a Per-Folder Basis
In the folder settings for the top-level folder, shared link access is set to: "Only collaborators can access this folder via shared link" + "Folder only."
While keeping this restriction on the top-level folder, we would like to be able to configure the following settings for its subfolders and the files within those subfolders:・For each folder, configure whether public links can be created for the files in that folder
・For each folder, define which users are allowed to create public links for the files in that folder (e.g., managed users allowed, external users not allowed)Reason: As part of our security measures (to prevent information leaks), we want to finely control, on a per‑folder basis, any unnecessary creation of public links.

Box for Office and co-authoring
Co-authoring and Box for Office each create "places" in Office applications, which is confusing to the end user. Per Box Support, files opened via the Box For Office integration cannot be co-authored.
The Box for Office integration includes Office ribbon icons, more intuitive file open/save workflows, and has been part of the Box integration environment for years. Consider either improving the UI of the "Place" created by the co-authoring integration or allowing co-authoring on content opened via the Box for Office integration.

Filter unmanaged users who have not been collaborated in the user detail report.
Content:
Currently, the user detail report cannot filter unmanaged users who have not been collaborated,
and it is necessary to check while cross-referencing with the user list on the Users and Groups screen.
Additionally, the unmanaged user list on the Users and Groups screen can take up to 24 hours to reflect changes,
which may cause discrepancies with the information at the time of report output, reducing operational efficiency.
I request the implementation of a feature that can filter unmanaged users who have not been collaborated.(日本語)

this simply doesn't work.
I've got 13GB of files to upload. I tried doing it in one go - and after a few hours I got an error saying "Some Uploads Failed". The "Resume All" button didn't work. I didn't know where this went wrong, deleted everything, tried uploading in chunks, same issue. Had to go down to granular 300-600MB folders, upload those, on a fast connection - super slow upload. Then - some folders display "0 Files", yet on opening have a ton of files. What gives? Who programmed this? ChatGPT? Could you give us FTP access or an app that would work better than a web interface? I'm shocked that anyone pays for this service.
P.S. also, allow one to save a setting for a folder that sorts files by name and keeps them sorted by name for anyone who visits the folder. we have all files starting with a reverse date to make them easier to find (e.g. 2026.03.12 folder name), but due to the messed up uploading system - none of them upload sequentially.

The X in the top right for closing out of previewing a file is gone
The X in the top right for closing out of previewing a file is gone. This is so painful to click the back button. Probably not the biggest thing in the world long term but short term soooo painful. I don't see why that couldn't just be kept, it wasn't bothering any feature or getting in the way.
