  2. Add filter function to Event API to limit the result by specifying a path collection

Event API result is a list of all updated files in an "entire" site.
For enterprise use-cases, the volume of this returned data is inevitably very large.
Thus, even if a part of site needs to be monitored, the network bandwidth is consumed unnecessarily and it casues the performance issue.
Could you add a filter function to Event API so that the API returns only events related to the files in the specified path collection?

  3. Include Path Collection in the result of Event API

Event API does not include the path collection for updated files. Thus, to get the updated files, another File Info API should be called.
This situation increases the number of API calls and causes the complexity of the client program and the performance issue.
Could you include the path collection in Event API results?

  4. Break waterfall permissions

Allow for restricted permissions within a shared folder (so permissions are not inherited from the parent folder)

  5. Freedom to move folders

Content sprawl is our #1 challenge. Please let us organize our folders. We don't want to interfere with the permissions, but I want to have an "Active Projects" folder and a "Project Archive" folder where I can drag and drop those relevant folders in.

  6. Fix file/folder size, counts, dates and storage

I'd like to preface this by saying that this is a bug that needs to be fixed, not an idea. Even so, Box suggested we post this here to get others to chime in and say that this should be fixed.

This is a problem that's been around for at least 1.5 years.

Often, when an account's folders and files are transferred to someone else, the account from which the data was transferred still shows something greater than 0 bytes owned. This becomes a problem for deleting that user, because we can't be sure if the transfer worked, and we…

  8. Templates - Restrict Templates to Specific Users/Groups and/or Folder Structures

Metadata templates are currently global across an entire EID. This does not scale well for large organizations with 50,000, 100,000 or more than 200,000 users. This request is to add 'scope' parameters to Metadata Templates such that a specific template can be restricted to...1. A specific set of users2. A specific set of Groups3. A specific Folder structure

We are evaluating options to improve the findability of metadata templates as well as to restrict the scope of access to templates based on dimensions such as application, group, and folder. If you have a use case for this please leave a comment on the request with an explanation of what problem you are trying to solve and how such a change would benefit your organization.

  9. "inactive" or "archive" flag maps to less-expensive storage

    FEATURE IDEA:
Provide ability to flag/classify files and folders in a way that allows Box to move them to a less-expensive storage offering on the back-end. This can be referred to as an "inactive" or "archive" flag.

    BENEFITS & BACKGROUND

During the Box Higher Education Community Monthly Open Discussion on January 11th, an idea to submit to Box Pulse was formed, and seemed to have support from all in attendance (25-30 institutions).

Box acknowledges that there is a growing concern around constantly increasing storage, and the costs associated with it. The majority of files stored in Box are perceived (or…

  10. Sorting: Fix the Incorrect Numerical Sort Order

The webapp currently handles number sorting in an odd (non-standard) way. For example:--For three file names beginning with: 1, 2, and 12--The webapp would sort these as: 1, 12, 2Which clearly isn't in the correct numerical order. Windows (and Finder) sort these correctly as: 1, 2, 12.

  12. Allow reorganization of received collaborated folders

I would like to request that all users are allowed, as non-folder owners, to place shared folders inside non-shared folders. This allows for better organization for users and therefore an overall better user experience. All other cloud services that I am a part of allow this.

    Example:
I own the folders "fruit" and "orange." Someone else owns the folder "apple" and shares it with me. Currently, I cannot place the folder "apple" inside of my "fruit" folder. I would like to request this is changed.

Currently, Box permissions (and as it was explained to me, security) does not allow it.…

  13. API endpoint to return ALL objects (recursively) but simplified to create browser tree

I am using the jstree library in my application to create a full browser tree of a user's BOX resources. Please create an endpoint to return ALL objects (recursive) available to an authenticated user inside one root folder . These objects would only require the object ID, TYPE, NAME, VERSION and PARENT(parent-id as string instead of parent object). The jstree lib can take this data and create an entire file browsing tree and then users would call up more information when they click on an object. This would greatly reduce the number of API calls to your server and possibly…

  14. Report on Folder Security settings changes

Would like changes to Folder Security settings to show in the Event stream and in Usage Logs. Since all Owners and Co-Owners of folders have access to these configurations, this is crucial to tracking changes to the security of sensitive content.

  15. File Shortcuts

I want to be able to have file shortcuts. They are just pointers to a file that can be placed in other folders throughout the file system. This makes it seem like there are copies of the file in multiple folders and all of the copies get updated whenever one gets updated because its actually one file with a bunch of references pointing to it.

  16. The ability to add an auto-expiration on specific external collaborators access to a specified file or folder.

I would like an Expiration option date picker to be added to the Collaboration Invite window. This will allow our company to let a user privilege expire without us being forced to expire by auto-deleting a folder, or sharing a link that expires but can also be shared with others in the meantime.

  17. Automatically remove external collaborators at the folder level

We want the ability to automatically remove external collaborators after a certain period of time, and we want to be able to customize this depending on the folder in question.

Currently, we can expire external collaborators at the global Enterprise level but this behavior isn't desirable across all folders.

We want to be able to set external collab expiration at the folder level with the ability for different folders to have different expiration periods when the collaborators would be automatically removed.

Thanks for the feedback! However, this is an edge use case which would add complexity to the product. We will review this with additional demand.

  18. shared link password

Currently there is an opportunity for Shared Links with a password to be brute force broken, as there are not any controls in place to disable after unsuccessful attempts. Two options to handle this are:
    - Implement the configuration in the Shared Link Password protection option to set the number of unsuccessful attempts
    - Implement an audit event that documents an unsuccessful Shared Link Password attempt, so that a custom implementation can monitor the unsuccessful attempts, and react accordingly.

  19. Option to Show Full Folder Hierarchy when Added Only to Subfolder

Right now, when collaborators are added to a folder, they are not able to see the folder hierarchy that is above the level at which they were added. This is great in many situations. However, there are various scenarios where customers would like users to have the 'full view' of the folder hierarchy above.

  20. Usage Logs - Better Reporting when Shared Link Permissions are Changed

Right now you can see WHEN a user changed the value of a shared link (closed to open for example) but not to what, so if a link was changed, we have to guess as to what level of access. This seems like a gap security wise and may lead to us shutting down shared links.
