Archive folders
Ability to manually or automatically archive folders that have not been modified for a while. The Archived files are searchable, but don't appear in normal file system (similar to how Gmail's archived emails don't show up in Inbox, but can be searched)

Ability in Box Drive to have documents physically stored on PC or external driver
In Box Drive it would be good that the documents are physically on our PC in offline mode, not just a memory copy (metadata).
32 votesThis capability remains in extended private beta. Please follow the news for the GA announcement.

Allow to freeze file and folders
Allow to freeze file and folders, which will not allow any collaborators including the owner to perform any changes to files and folders. Example: prevent creating new versions of the files, prevent moving content to trash, prevent change of metadata etc. Basically complete lock, which can only be unlocked at the end of a retention period. The purpose is to manage enterprise records. May be some sort of retention policy that lets us do the above. The current lock feature does not provide the level of freeze we are looking for.

install selective sync on mobile app
In the mobile app. for Box Sync, only sync the files I have marked to sync in Box.com. I have NO need to see all files in our entire organization and it is a waste of space on my phone,
the request is to have selective syncing like on a laptop.1 vote -
Allow http://127.0.0.1 as redirect_url in published box apps
It is currently disallowed to use redirect_urls of the form http://127.0.0.1 in published apps.
These give the error "insecureredirecturi".
These are allowed in unpublished apps.
Having a redirect to 127.0.0.1 is very useful for native apps which run on the users computer (eg rclone https://rclone.org ).
It is pretty much impossible to do https to 127.0.0.1 - you can't get a valid certificate for it. See this link for details: https://letsencrypt.org/docs/certificates-for-localhost/ - and also for reasons why using http://127.0.0.1 is treated as secure by browsers.
I'll describe how rclone, a native CLI app works. Rclone runs on the users computer - it runs a local webserver to get the auth details so the communications done over http are from the users browser to the users computer and never reach the LAN or Internet. Modern browsers treat http://127.0.0.1 as secure as the traffic never runs over the Internet or even the local network.
This is more secure than having to use an external https server which then redirects to http://127.0.0.1 as the credentials go straight to the CLI application and don't have to go over the Internet at all or travel through another server.
Note that almost all the other oauth providers that rclone supports allow http://127.0.0.1 redirect_urls, this includes Google Drive, Amazon Cloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Cloud Storage, Google Photos, Hubic, MailRu, pcloud, sharefile, Yandex (and more!)
So box is looking like the odd one out here!
Please implement this feature - thank you :-)

box drive metadata
With some of the new updates coming to Metadata, I'd like to request that Box Drive be able to support updates to Metadata on a folder/file.
As a start, a context menu option that would take a user directly to the metadata page.13 votesThanks for the feedback! This isn’t currently planned, but please keep the use cases coming to help us prioritize it.

Target users for EMM mobile clients
Currently if an organisation wishes to enable the Enterprise Mobility Management version of the mobile clients they have to enable it at a global level.
We would like to be granular with this. We're a University and I want to enforce all staff users to use the EMM client but not students (their uni data is not considered "sensitive").
Please can Box allow granular assigned of EMM users?
In our use case we have just under 3,600 user who require EMM but 17,000 users do not.

We would like to change the icons for Box Drive to appear different for a shortcut vs network drive.
We would like to change the icons for Box Drive to appear different for a shortcut vs network drive. We encountered an issue and confusion with Box Drive. One day, Box Drive didn't start up. We assumed that the shortcut icon on the desktop wasn't working properly. Therefore, we went to [C:\Users*UserAccount*] and found a shortcut icon which was exactly the same as the one on the desktop. We thought this icon was the shortcut to Box Drive, so we moved this shortcut icon to the desktop, and all of a sudden, the contents in Box were all moved to the desktop. We then realized, this was not a shortcut to Box Drive, but was the Network Drive. Due to this confusion, many items were deleted. We would like to request that Box change the icons of the shortcut and the Network Drive to be more different among each other, so that users won't get confused.

Support Drag & Drop from Box Web App to Outlook
Please enable the ability to drag and drop files FROM Box Web App TO Outlook email client (including the option to insert them as links OR to add them as normal attachments). Currently there is no native Drag and Drop functionality available between the Box Web App and Outlook. Therefore, the process to add file attachments/links to emails via the Web App or Outlook Plug-In is actually currently LESS efficient with BOX than without it. Since BOX Drive is not available for virtual clients (such as Terminal Server or Citrix), their only option is to use the Web App or Outlook Plug-In, but neither of those options is as seamless or efficient as Drag & Drop. In addition, the ability to choose whether or not to drag them in as links OR attachments is also important, since there are many workflows and outside companies who's automated email processing systems and workflows do not support embedded links, so the ability to send normal attachments to those companies using box is also important.

automated report options in box
It would be great in Box to be able to set up reports we need on a recurring basis to run ron a recurring basis as needed rather than having to manually run the same report each time we need. If this feature could be implemented, that would be wonderful.

Be able to sort tag search results by name, not just "relevance" and "updated"
When you search for a tag, your only options to sort the results are by "relevance" and "updated". It would be VERY helpful to be able to sort by name on a tag search.

Support for "custom domains" (not just sub-domains).
Add support for custom domains (not just sub-domains). We already use the sub-domain, but we find that box.com is blocked by counter parties, for security/DLP reasons
Having this ability would more easily allow other firms to white list our site without opening up ever Box account under the sun.

We would like the ability to put a specific Matadata as our home page.
We would like the ability to select certain Matadata as our home page. This would allow for us to really customize our home page to our specific needs and the ability to adjust it easily, vs using the favorites.

Box Shield
Can we have more granular on the detection rules, e,g, down to user groups, or individual account level - allowing customers to set priorities as high for some user groups, but low for others. For some users, a customer may expect high levels of downloads/activity in Box and this may be in peaks and troughs - therefore potentially a lower priority, whereas with execs this activity should be treated as a higher priority and greater risk.

Rethink Box Notes as a Collaborative Tool
Many of the comments about Box Notes, and the shortcomings that make them seem only marginally useful to me, arise from them being treated/implemented as something totally "other", compared to other file types that one might load into Box.
Unlike other files, Box acts as if Notes all belong together rather than in the user's folder structure, and they have their own type of page or tab that is confusingly different from the standard Box interface, rather than simply opening up in an editing window if the user wants to make changes. An editing window would be much more intuitive, and would help users not lose track of where they started in the folder structure.
As for editing, Box Notes should have roughly the same capabilities as e-mail or a blog post. I've seen some snarky replies from Box staff about how Notes are not intended for creating flyers or complex page layouts -- what a ridiculous response to the formatting suggestions. Just provide the formatting capabilities that people might have expected from e-mail or a blog editor (or even a discussion forum) say, 5 years ago. That means table and cell shading, more than 3 or 4 sizes of fonts (and a monospaced "code" font as someone else suggested, more than 16 rather light and garish colors, and probably bullet and numbered lists. And maybe inclusion of an image, but even that would be a luxury.
Box will never be a real collaboration tool in the general sense, but if Box Notes can be Not-Confusing and can accommodate lists, a little more font-size control, and some color in tables for legibility or emphasis, then the Notes can be used more effectively for collaborative outlining, planning, status-tracking, etc.
