1. Add account info to Box application window

   One of our users recently asked the following:

   "In the Box drive alert window, the Box Drive Settings gear icon doesn't
   do anything useful. Please add an actual settings window with basic
   information like file space used, buttons for pause/restart syncing, etc.

   The Box Drive window is an alert style window that disappears anytime a
   mouse is clicked or any other window is interacted with. This is the
   case in Windows 7 through Windows 11. It would be better if Box Drive
   had an actual application window like most other apps."

   I know that manual syncing isn't possible yet in Drive, but I wasn't sure if this was a good place to mention the other questions this user raised.

2. Show who has locked a file in Box Drive

   In the Webapp you are able to see who has locked a file, in Drive you cannot see this unless you navigate to the web. Heavy Drive users/customers require this information in the Drive UI

5. Option to prevent Drive from launching on startup by user

   We are preparing to deploy Box Drive to our users using the Windows .msi. However we've found that after installation, the Box Drive window opens automatically for every user, every time they log into the computer. For users on a shared system who are not using Box, this means dismissing the window every login.
   We'd like an option for Box Drive installation to not have the client launch automatically for all users. Or post-installation, allow the user to tell Box Drive not to open automatically for them. If the Box Drive client needs to run at login for every user, could it at least start with an icon in the system tray and not a visible window?

6. Collaborator files from Box Drive not showing up on Box.com

   Ever since we updated our systems to macOS Ventura we've encountered many issues with Box Drive, now we are not seeing files from other collaborators that they report to have synced showing up on other peoples Drive or on Box.com at all. Box Drive has become unreliable lately, and users are being forced to manually upload files via desktop to ensure their files sync. Please fix!

7. Box Drive client should fall back to attempt direct connection if proxy fails

   In short, if Box Drive sees a proxy and attempts to connect via the proxy but that fails, it should fall back and attempt a direct connection before failing completely.

   I experienced this on Windows. Not sure if it would apply to other OSes or not.

   The specific details...

   I'm in a Corporate environment with a laptop. When our laptops are on the corporate network, we do go through a proxy. But when off of the corporate network, like working at home, it doesn't use the proxy. We use an auto-config proxy .pac file to control the proxy on and off the network. This works for most things.

   HOWEVER, I also have some system environment variables defined on my computer, HTTPPROXY and HTTPSPROXY, that are required to make some of our cloud development tools work, like for AWS, on our corporate network.

   Box Drive apparently also sees these environment variables and attempts to use the proxy even when I'm outside our Corporate network. The environment variables appear to override the auto-config proxy .pac config. Since the corporate proxy is not accessible outside the corporate network, the Box Drive client fails to connect outside the corporate network.

   If I delete the HTTPPROXY and HTTPSPROXY environment variables, then Box Drive connects correctly outside of the corporate network.

   There may be other solutions too, but the first thing I thought of was that if a proxy connection fails, fall back to attempt a direct connection.

   In short, if Box Drive sees a proxy and attempts to connect via the proxy but that fails, it should fall back and attempt a direct connection before failing completely.

   I experienced this on Windows. Not sure if it would apply to other OSes or not.

8. Retrieve Box shared links along with local paths from Box Drive

   I am interested in retrieving a list containing local file paths and their shared links from Box Drive. This would be useful in scenarios where I am referencing many files through Box Drive (e.g., a mail merge in Microsoft Word which references a unique shared Box link in each email). Currently each shared Box link must be retrieved manually using Box Drive’s right-click context menu.

9. Reduce Box Drive log file size on admin device

   Box Drive logs take up over 35GB in four days. If possible, it would be great to either purge old logs or compress them so they don't take up as much space on the local HD.

10. Support smartcard authentication for Box Sync and Box Drive.

    Please put some more effort into federal customers inquiring about SSO sign in for Box Sync on Macs. The response I got was kind of a punt to our smart cards being the problem but fed agencies have an increasing mandate to login with smartcards. My specific issue may affect many other gov agencies that use Macs and Box Sync. Long story short – smart card certificate passthrough on Windows works as expected and certificates pass through Box Sync app login to the external SSO for USDA e-Authentication but the certificates don’t appear to make it to the external authenticator on the Mac version so in my humble opinion some changes are probably needed on how smartcard certificates pass to the SSO authenticator on the Mac app if the same function works in the Windows app.

    We would like to change the icons for Box Drive to appear different for a shortcut vs network drive. We encountered an issue and confusion with Box Drive. One day, Box Drive didn't start up. We assumed that the shortcut icon on the desktop wasn't working properly. Therefore, we went to [C:\Users*UserAccount*] and found a shortcut icon which was exactly the same as the one on the desktop. We thought this icon was the shortcut to Box Drive, so we moved this shortcut icon to the desktop, and all of a sudden, the contents in Box were all moved to the desktop. We then realized, this was not a shortcut to Box Drive, but was the Network Drive. Due to this confusion, many items were deleted. We would like to request that Box change the icons of the shortcut and the Network Drive to be more different among each other, so that users won't get confused.

12. Support for .bak files through Box Drive.

    Currently .bak files in Box are not exposed in the Box folder in Explorer, and putting a .bak file in your Box folder will result in a "problem file"

13. SSO multi-zone assignment through Box Drive log in

    We have an enterprise initiative to start leveraging Box drive through our file share migration to Box. The usage is expected to be high within our enterprise since we are working towards enabling Box as an enterprise level application. Since we are a global company, we have requirements regarding data residency and data location within Box. While Zones provide that functionality, through our testing we found the Zone assignment doesn't change when the login is initiated from Box Drive, it only changes when you log through Web UI.
    Although the workaround is pretty obvious and have people log in through the web UI once the location will be set but when we scale that into a large subset of users, the management overhead to make sure everyone is assigned correctly Zone, will be considerably high.

    A simple way to accomplish this is to add the functionality of allowing Multi-Zones assignments to be driven from Box Drive log in as well as through the Web UI log in.

    appreciate any input on that.

15. Box Drive Security - Utilize MFA/ Enforce connection to specific network

    For several reasons having our staff use Box Drive to access their files is the most helpful for our office. However it would be great if some additional security features could be added to Drive such as requiring the user be connected to specific network or utilize an MFA process. We currently have a vpn requirement setup to access the Box web app through our Okta service but this doesnt work as well with Drive since it caches the user credentials.

16. Taskbar icon overlay for Box Drive to indicate if there are any "Problem Items"

    Currently for Box Drive (for Windows) you have to go into the program then Box Drive Settings to view if there are any problem files. Most users will never do this.

    Ideally there should be a red exclamation overlay on the taskbar icon if there are any problem files and they should be shown immediately when you click to open Box Drive.

    This would help end users to see that not all their files are syncing and then ideally also show them the local path of the problem file (that they can click on to access) AND also give them an option to click a link to view the file on box.com if it needs to be fixed there.

18. Box Drive Moving a Folder Off of Drive Fully Deletes it From Box for Mac FPE Users, Folder Lock API Enhancements

    For PC Users on Drive (and historically for Mac users), when you move a folder from Box Drive onto your Desktop, it simply makes a copy of that folder and leaves the original in Box.
    However, for Mac Users on the new FPE version of Box Drive, if they move a folder from Drive onto the Desktop, it fully deletes the folder from Box.
    For example, I am an Editor on a Marketing Folder that's owned by the IT Service Account and shared with hundreds of colleagues. I accidentally move this folder from Box Drive onto my desktop (easy mistake to make). Now this folder has been deleted from everyone's Box account. I realize my mistake and place this folder back onto Box. Now I am the owner of the folder and it isn't shared with anyone else.
    I understand that this is a limitation on the Apple side, however this is extremely painful for customers and has lead to a lot of confusion and data loss.

    Originally, I thought the the Folder Lock API could be used to put locks on large company folders so that they aren't accidentally deleted. However, upon further research the folder lock API isn't sufficient. First, the Folder Lock API doesn't waterfall down so you need to apply it to EVERY folder. Second, the Folder Lock API only locks the individual folder and not the files within. So I can still accidentally delete files within the locked folder. Last, the Folder Lock API experience on Drive differs from the Web. On Drive if I'm the folder Owner, then I cannot delete the folder. However, if I'm a folder editor then if I move the folder, it allows me to move it off of Drive and just removes me as a collaborator. On the Web, editors and co-owners don't even see the delete button as an option!

    For PC Users on Drive (and historically for Mac users), when you move a folder from Box Drive onto your Desktop, it simply makes a copy of that folder and leaves the original in Box.

19. Show Date Uploaded, instead of Date Created for new files in Box Drive

    Right now, when a file is uploaded to Box, the dated modified date shows the date the file was uploaded however, on Box Drive the date modified is the date the file was created.

    We would like to see the date the file was uploaded on Box Drive, as it appears on the webapp.

20. Ability to control folder actions on Box Drive

    When using box drive, I would like to update the specifications so that control (move / delete) is possible so as to prevent accidentally moving the folder to an unexpected location.
