  1. Admin-level alert notification on certain Box Drive permission errors

Users can create folders in Box Drive at the root level. In a closed folder taxonomy, the folder does not sync and fails with permission and/or problem item errors. If a user does not address the notification (or notifications are disabled), users can continue to create content in the unsynced folders. Icon overlays are also not reliable, so this will not be discovered until the content is lost due to hardware failure or software/OS reload. Consider alerting admins of these issues via the event stream or Shield-type alerts to prevent data loss, or disabling the creation of folders this way.

  2. SSO multi-zone assignment through Box Drive log in

We have an enterprise initiative to start leveraging Box drive through our file share migration to Box. The usage is expected to be high within our enterprise since we are working towards enabling Box as an enterprise level application. Since we are a global company, we have requirements regarding data residency and data location within Box. While Zones provide that functionality, through our testing we found the Zone assignment doesn't change when the login is initiated from Box Drive, it only changes when you log through Web UI.
Although the workaround is pretty obvious and have people log in through…

  3. Utilizing Photoshop and Illustrator Files Without Box Drive

Currently, files that use external references (links) in Photoshop and Illustrator cannot access those references when opened directly from Box. Our company handles a large number of such files, but due to security concerns, we have not enabled Box Drive, which has hindered our effective use of Box. If external references could be utilized without Box Drive—similar to how Excel handles them—it would significantly enhance our ability to leverage Box.

  4. Ability to see and access bookmarks in Box Drive

Bookmarks: I store a lot of bookmarks in Box. This bookmarks are not visible in the folder structure on my laptop (links seems not to be stored as files). As a consequence e.g. bookmark titles are only searchable via Box browser interface but not via Windows search functionality within explorer

We are currently not planning to implement this feature and will continue to prevent all Box Drive results from appearing in Explorer/Finder searches.

Box Drive does not download the all of the metadata (File name, folder structure, etc.) of your Box content. Instead, it is downloaded on demand and then evicted when it is no longer relevant. This eviction process is not visible to users and it is not easily predictable. This would cause the search results in Explorer/Finder to be inconsistent for users – sometimes they would find a file and other times they may not if the metadata and file were evicted.

We have chosen not to download all of the metadata (and then keep it up to date with changes) as this can result in a large performance, storage and bandwidth tax which is not scalable – especially in environments where users interface with millions of files/folders.

  6. Increase the start-up speed of Box Drive. It is SOOO slow to start!

Every time I have to restart my computer it takes Box Drive a good 5-10 minutes to start. This is unacceptable for such a large enterprise like this. Even accessing my offline files cannot be done until Box Drive completely starts.

  7. Box drive should only show and sync the selected folder and left the unselected online only

Box drive now allows you to hide folder. Be frankly this is useless. Because for most the IT users, we normally enabe showing hidden folder/files option in Windows explorer. So for more prefessional usage, the Box Drive should only show and sync the selected folders. The folders not selected should be left alone online.
One example, I have a box drive hosting many folders. Each folder hosting one project. The projects could be from different client. When I work with client A, I only want client A project folder to be sync and shown on my desktop. But now the…

  8. Allow Users to 'Remove' all files from their BOX Drive as a right-click command

It would be nice, instead of logging out of BOX Drive on my personal computer to 'remove' all files on my personal device (so anything that was cached or downloaded). Instead of having to 'log out' of the BOX drive app.

  9. Log HTTP_PROXY/HTTPS_PROXY Usage in Box Drive (Windows)

On Windows, we encountered prolonged troubleshooting with Box Drive because setting the HTTPPROXY and HTTPSPROXY environment variables led to unexpected proxy usage.

While it is widely known in the Python ecosystem that these environment variables can influence program behavior, the impact on Box Drive was not obvious and made diagnosis difficult.

Could you consider enhancing Box Drive’s logs to output a list of the environment variables it reads (e.g., those related to proxy configuration) so that issues like this are easier to identify?

  10. Add rich sharing features from webapp to Drive

Would love to be able to have more of the rich sharing functionality from the webapp available in the Box Drive UI, specifically for configuring sharing options (password, expiration etc).

  11. A snapshot of contents within a Box drive folder

Have you ever looked at a top-level Box folder and felt overwhelmed by the prospect of having to dig through and drill down to every sub-folder just to know what the contents are?

Do you get discouraged at the thought of looking for a single file that could possibly exist way down the rabbit hole of Box folders and sub-folders?

Would you rather have the ability to glance at a snapshot of an entire Box folder and all the sub-folders and files that exist within it?

A simple yet effective solution is a "tree directory" view. This is a feature…

  12. Add "Sign in with Google" Option to Box Drive

For users who "Sign in with Google" to the Box Web App, it would also be helpful to have the option for Box Drive.

  14. Improve online Permissions integrations with Box Drive to local Applications (Excel)

If a user is a "View only" collaborator in a folder on Box and they attempt to open a file with a program like Excel through Box Drive, they will receive an error message from Box Drive about not having permissions to save changes. This happens even if no changes are made, and the user is left with 'unsynced' files they must reconcile.

In a similar experience on a "real NTFS" volume, Excel would display "Read-Only" beside the title of the file. No errors would be displayed unless the user attempted to actually save to the directory.

    Excel is not…

  15. Ability to whitelist applications that can access to Box Drive by using command prompt

Whitelisting which application can access to Box Drive folder by using command prompt. Currently, customer is able to identify which application can NOT access to Box Drive. Rather, Marubeni Corporation ask Box to control which application is able to access to Box Drive folder.

  16. Prevent items with restricted movement from being moved on the Box Drive display

If "Do not allow ownership of content to be transfered to external users" is enabled in the tenant settings, content cannot be moved to external tenants by users other than the administrator.

However, when content is moved in Box Drive, although it is not actually moved, it appears on the display as if it is stored in the destination folder, and it does not return to the original folder until the user logs out/logs back in to Box Drive.

Content whose movement is restricted by Classification Policies will immediately return to the folder in which it was originally stored, both…

  17. Be able to have the folders which are shared with other collaborators "invisible" in Drive.

In Box Drive UI, a user cannot distinguish whether the folder is collaborated with "Other company's user" or not. This may cause accidental info leak.

In order to avoid those information leaking, we want to have those folders "invisible" on Box Drive in advance.

  18. Allowing Box Drive to be enabled or disabled for specific users or groups

I have found it inconvenient that Box Drive can only be enabled or disabled for all users uniformly.

I believe that allowing Box Drive to be enabled or disabled for specific users or groups would provide more flexible operation. Implementing this feature could enhance security and operational efficiency. I would greatly appreciate your consideration of this request.

  19. It would be good have two people collaborate when both use box drive

Right now, the only way to collaborate is using box drive and MS 365 online-- which has a clunky interface. Would be good to have people working in Box Drive be able to jointly edit documents. Sharepoint Sync allows that to happen, but Box Drive does not.

  20. Add verification question when moving files in Box Drive using File Explorer

In the web box.com environment moving folders or files is verified with a question. This is not the case using Box Drive and moiving files or folders using File Explorer.

A similar question as in box.com and if you delete files in Files Explorer should have been added for moving files in Box Drive. By accident root folder containing hundreds of GB may be moved and hidden into subfolders causing severe problems.
