Import shield classification pattern values from a xls or doc
Ability to import custom terms from a xls - the ability to import any shield value (ex email domains) from a xls or doc is important because that is how they manage such lists with other applications

I would like to be able to play video and audio when previewing.
I would like to be able to play video and audio when previewing.
For security reasons, I would like to share video and audio without allowing external users to download them.
This will be a useful feature for media users.1 vote -

Enable someone to invite others to edit a file or folder through a Shared Link, NOT as a Collaborator
Enable someone to invite others to edit a file or folder through a Shared Link, NOT as a Collaborator.
Currently, I can invite someone to edit my files/folders as a collaborator, but I cannot invite them to edit my files/folders through a Shared Link.
Google Workspace offers this.

Metadata: enable functionality where users must provide a reason for changing a metadata value on highly protected content
Metadata: enable functionality where users must provide a reason (e.g. a comment) for changing a metadata value on highly protected content.
Possibly, we offer the option to configure Box Shield Classification Tags for this. E.g. The tag could say "metadata changes require justification."

Managing/Drawing Diagrams in Box
Box already integrate MS Office to be able to temporary dowload a office document for edit but also allows to update MS Office documents online in the browser.
I would like to see similar functionality for diagrams.
Draw.IO is a diagram tool that you can use offline and online app.diagrams.net
So it would be easy to provide working with diagrams in Box very easy.Function A: Online Editing of draw.io files with embedded drawio or passing it to app.diagrams.net
Function B: Allows to temporary download drawio files same as with ms office documents.

Document ID on Documents
We would love to be able to have the document ID either added to the document itself, say in the footer, or be added to the name of the document when opening.
That is pretty standard for most document management systems these days.
You will see documents named "12345 v2 Settlement Case" (where the v2 normally indicates the version of the document). It would be nice to be able to have this set at the user level so the user can decide if the doc ID and version are necessary for them.

View notifications in separate webpage
It would be great if we can view all notifications in one webpage the same as you can do with tasks instead of just a drop down window.

Set "SSO Required"/"SSO Enabled" for each user
The current "SSO Required" is for all managed users.
When creating "administrator user and general user" as a managed user, there are the following problems.
-It is necessary to create an administrator user ID on the IdP side.
-When accessing as an administrative user, it takes time and effort to log in from the IdP and access Box.
-A license fee will also be charged on the IdP side.If we can set "SSO required" and "SSO enabled" for each user, the problem will be solved.

Use customer's own email gateway to send email notifications
Many customers in regulated industries do NOT like the fact that email notifications from Box come from the Box Service with a noreply@box.com email address. The emails that Box sends on the user behalf do not go through a customer's email security or e-discovery system thus it creates problems in regulated environment that need to capture ALL communications between internal users and external customers. Box needs to have a configuration where a customer can configure their own SMTP gateway that Box can use to send email notifications with the proper TO and FROM data so they can better document and track all communications that come from the Box service.

Improved messaging for "Share" dialog box and handling of Links
I have been using Box for a couple of years and still find the Share function and creation of Links very confusing and non-intuitive. For example, what are "Invited People?" and how are they different than 'People with the Link?" Why have 2 different places to copy the link? One is on the first dialog box and it appears that one takes the viewer to Box.com and they can view or download the file, but then if you click on "Link Settings" adifferent dialog box opens and there is another link you can copy. This one says Direct Link above it. There is no explanation of what that means. I have discovered that that link causes the file to download the file when you click on it. Why not have these two different kinds of links in the same place? Why does the Shared Link Settings section say 'This content is publicly available to anyone with the link..." That doesnt really make sense. The whole handling of links and Sharing files could just use a major overhaul.

Expose Box's "Notification Email" field to SAML provisioning and syncing
The "Notification Email" functionality in Box is very helpful for @mentions, file sharing invites and other user notificaitons that need to go to an email address other than the email address used to sign into Box. This can be the necessary when a company has subsidiaries on a common directory infrastructure, but one or more subsidiaries is still maintain the old email identities for day to day work. There are likely other reasons to use this field.
Email: john.doe@mothership.com (Used to sign in.)
Notification email: jdoe@subsidary.com (The correct email address for user notifications.)Box's SAML integration allows an Identify Provider, Okta for instance, to provision a new user which is great. However, it's not presently possible to populate the data element for "Notification Email" via SAML. This requires a time consuming manual update in Box when setting up a new user.

Sharing a Collection
I understand that collections are meant to be a user specific setting, however, it would be great to have the ability to share a collection with a co-worker.
102 votesThanks for the feedback. Collections are going to remain as personalized views in the near future. We may revisit this down the road.

Show file/metadata info from Photoshop image files
Photographers submit their images to our Box account for use in our publications. The industry standard is for professional photographers to add metadata like the photo credit and caption to each photo using the "File Info" tool in Photoshop. Unfortunately, after doing so and then uploading the images to Box, the metadata added in Photoshop is not visible in Box's metadata section. Please consider exposing this info under "details" or "metadata."
Extra credit: Allow us to edit that same metadata in Box. Doing so would allow the correct credit and caption info to flow into our InDesign layouts. Saving lots of time and room for error. Thanks for considering this!

"Box Problem Items" error dialog is useless
I received "file path is invalid on this system" errors from Box Drive through a "Box Problem Items" dialog. This window is useless! All it lists is the problem folder names. I can't simply rename the problem folder from this window; I can't click the folder icon and navigate to the problem folder in my file structure; I can't even swipe the file name and copy it into the search bar so I can find the problem folder on my own. Such a garbage error report! Please make this dialog actually useful

Co-admin should be able to login to other co-admin accounts and service accounts
Box co-admin should have the ability to log into other co-admin accounts and application services accounts to manage content. Today, you rely on using Box APIs or the primary Box admin account. It would be more convenient for coadmins to use the Box webapp instead.

BOX SHIELD - Block all applications from downloading content
The following feature is redundant:
Block all applications from downloading content - No integrated applications (except Microsoft Office for the web, Google Workspace, Apple iWork, and Adobe Acrobat Online) or published custom applications will be able to download content protected by the access policy.
I thought the purpose of Box Shield was to protect organizations from data breaches????
We have configured everything within our box account to prevent certain data from being download or printed. However, Box gives our users the option to open these confidential files in Adobe Acrobat which then allows them to download, print, and anything else they want to do with our companies files.
What am I missing? Please advise if there is another setting I must activate to prevent this. Thank you.

"apply workflow to all subfolders" should be an option for every trigger
When using the "manual start" trigger of a workflow you can check a box that will apply the workflow to all subfolders. This would be useful for all triggers.
Currently I need to create 10+ duplicate work flows that are exactly the same, but applied to separate folders.
I am unable to use the "manual start" trigger because the workflow is most efficiently start by an external collaborator - and Box does not enable external collaborators to start manual workflows13 votes
