  1. Syncing files and having them download to devices automatically

    Create a setting in Box Drive so that files, once updated, automatically sync and download to all devices for use offline. Now, we have to designate each folder for "use offline." Why not have a setting that allows us to make that the default (so it functions like Box Sync)? As it now stands, I'd have to know in advance which files I might use on a flight, if I'm traveling with a different computer. That's a pain.

  2. Simplify Box Experience Per Design

    Currently, my firm has Box Drive integrated to our Salesforce CRM. What would help simplify and in the end optimize our experience by minimizing errors is to be allowed the option to remove the top search bar banner and the documents file path from the Salesforce instance. Limiting the access to other files from one contact to another can also help prevent accidental file modifications. Hope this can be of benefit to other Box users!

  3. Owner off documents/folder can set it to be edited with online apps only

    Allow anyone who creates a folder or document (not just the company/enterprise) to set if a document can be downloaded, or if it is editable only in the online version (ie: Microsoft office online). Being able to download, edit, and save causes a lot of problems with different versions coming into existence! We have box drive, box edit, box for outlook, etc enabled, and it's causing problems for multi-user documents.

  4. Force removal of local copy of item which has been sync'ed

    One of our common workflows on Dropbox was

    • Move large file to the (Dropbox, now Box) folder
    • Wait for (Dropbox, now Box) to upload that content to the cloud storage
    • Right-click on the file and select an option to force it to "Online Only" mode, which would remove the local copy, freeing up the disk space

    It seems that there is no way to do that last bit with Box Drive, and there absolutely should be. For many folks, the premise of cloud storage is "get this off my local disk", and waiting until some random cache times out days…

  5. Drag and Drop with System Tray vs Windows Explorer

    We are unable to drag drop files into an application when pulling content from the system tray but is able to do so from box drive in the windows explorer

  6. Ability to automatically convert Unicode @ (atmark) to single byte

    When non-English users try to use @mention in comment or annotation, they often type @ (atmark or at sign) character with their native language (mostly double bytes, Unicode).

    Just like other cloud services (like Slack), please add ability to automatically recognize and convert double bytes atmark to single byte atmark for non-English user conveniences and to help drive user adoption of these features.

  7. Increased accessibility of upload status of a file for visually impaired users

    Currently, in Box Drive the only way to check the upload status of a file/folder is to check the folder/file icons. There is currently no way for visually impaired users to check the current status of an upload, or check the status of content being Marked for Offline, since this functionality also relies on the folder/file icons for this information.

    Box should consider a solution to this that would better serve visually impaired and blind users

  8. Ability to control roll-out of Box apps

    Right now, updates to apps like Box Drive roll-out in a phased approach without any admin control. That means that I have some users on one version and some on another... and the manual download version is the old version so I can't force-update anyone who is having issues and needs to take advantage to a bug-fix version.

    If this is difficult, then just post the current/new version as the manual download - problem solved!

  9. Add Make Available Offline control to Explorer/Finder toolbar

    We are pushing our users to start using Drive instead of Sync. Our helpdesk team brought up that they are concerned that the current UI for MFOing content (right click file, click “Make Available Offline”) is not intuitive for end users. They are requesting a button for “MFO“ to be surfaced on the top toolbar of the Windows Explorer window when an item is selected, so that the option is visible without having to right click the item.

  10. Support for Other Templates and Legacy File Formats

    Hi Team,

    We are looking for Box Drive and Box Web to support additional Word, Excel, and other office templates and file formats so we can save these into Box.

    Currently Box only supports a few modern formats like .docx and .xlsx for word and excel for example, but we are using several other templates and formats as you can see in the screenshot below.

    Please consider broader support for other types of files for office going forward.

  11. Web interface improvements - New Folder creation

    Two things:
    1) Within the Box Web App, allow for the creation of a New Folder and other features when you "right-click" within the view area. Google Drive already has this.

    2) After clicking the "New" > "Folder", to create a new folder, a pop-up window appears. Please have the cursor automatically highlight the "Folder Name" field, so that you don't have to click within the text field first to type a name.

    These UI improvements will help with the overall experience. Thanks!

    BoxDriveI am aware that there are solutions for file conflicts like the one below, but there are some cases where the above cannot be resolved. (e.g., under a folder with "Hide" enabled).

  15. When dragging files to your desktop from BOX it should be a default of COPY, instead the default is MOVE. Unfortunately when user MOVES the

    After upgrading to Monterey, Box Drive has made a significant change in behavior where dragging a file from Box Drive to the local filesystem moves the file, rather than the previous behavior of copying the file. It will still copy if you're dragging the file to removable media, but not the local Mac drive.

    Anyone know of a way to alter this behavior back to the previous?

    It causes three fairly significant issues.

    One, if someone needs a local copy of a file for travel, offline, whatever, now it's removed from Box and no one else can access it if…

  16. Box Shutdowns down early during shutdown, so MS Word docs with changes can't be saved if shutdown aborted

    This problem plagues me onace a week or so. When Windows 10 is shutting down, Box Drive shutdowns down early before Windows asks to save opened changed docs - so MS Word docs with changes can't be saved if shutdown aborted. I end up having to save locally, reboot, then put the file into Box, then shutdown a second time. Painful, especially at the end of the day.
    Proposal - work with Microsoft on a way to delay the Box shutdown point - until after the cancel shutdown message occurs...

  17. Permanently mark a file as not malicious

    We had a user (with Box Drive) who had a file marked as malicious. She apparently made a change to a local copy and added it back to her folder, causing it to be marked as malicious a second time. In fairness, the hash is different, since the file changed. When I looked at the first event, I ran the file through VT, and the results came back as all clean, so I marked it as not malicious. The user was still not able to access the file. I had to go back into Shield, find the second instance, scan…

    Recommend an automated, timed backup onto a secure Duke folder for ToolKit folders/files to improve deleted file recovery options for a team. Now it appears that recovery of files that were deleted in a shared Duke Box Toolkit folder can only be recovered by the individual that deleted the file (not the co-owner or admin without the assistance of the individual that performed the deletion). For critical files this is a security risk to just store the files on the Box Drive because it severely limits identifying and recovering deleted files.   19. Add the service name that locked file to the Lock property

    There is a issue that Box Drive and other third party apps can open files that are being edited in Office Online.
    When I am editing a file in Office Online, the user who is editing the file becomes me, so I can edit the file regardless of whether it is locked.
    This issue can be solved if we know the name of the service that did the locking.
    Therefore, please add the service ID/name that locked file to the Get File API response.

  20. Would love to have files/folders in numbered order when more than 9

    In some of my Box Drive folders I would like to number the sub folders/files for best structure. So the folder names would be something like: 1. Budget, 2. Production plan, 3. ...... 10. Casting, 11. Marketing, and so on.
    But when I have more than 9 folders numbered like this they will not keep in the numbered order. 10 and 11 comes before 2 and so on. This drives me and my coworkers crazy. Is there any way to fix this so that they keep in the numbered order 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11 and so on?
